Okay, so you can’t get a job at one of the big East Coast or West Coast comic book companies. Oh well, there are plenty of other opportunities out there. Have you ever thought of Chicago? Maybe the Evanston Campus of a major university?

The Library at Northwestern University is looking for a Library Assistant to catalog their comic book and underground comix collections in their “Department of Special Collections and University Archives.”

It’s a part-time, one year appointment that’s going to run from Sept. 1, 2009-Aug. 31, 2010. But hey, it’s a paid gig, it’s connected to comics, you’ll get to see a lot of really cool stuff – I’m guessing their collection ain’t lame – and you’ll get paid.

Naturally, there are a lot of responsibilities, including correcting errors from previous appointees, and some interesting requirements, like “Working knowledge of one or more modern European foreign languages and ability to work with other foreign languages using a dictionary” and “Familiarity with the MARC21 formats,” all of which disqualify me, so you won’t have to compete with my resume over there.

But here’s my favorite qualification on their job posting: “Interest in comic books is a plus.” Well, duh. I didn’t need my college degree to nail that one. So polish up that resume, work on telling the difference between Captain Marvel and Captain Guts (hint: only one of them is by Larry Welz), and hurry. The listing has been up for three weeks already! Good luck!
