Comic Book Jobs: Who’s Hiring? Marvel Comics

Posted by Tom Mason Categories: Editorials, Marvel Comics,

Sub-MarinerMarvel Comics continues to make the hiring news with two new positions opening up. Since DC Comics hasn’t posted a new job listing in weeks, Marvel would seem to be the only major company that’s still located in Manhattan that’s in a hiring phase. Make of that what you will.

First up, the House of Ideas needs a Project Manager in Promotions that sounds like a lot of fun. You’ll get to “oversee and manage all aspects of a robust co-promotional program with worldwide partners including television, print media, premiums, digital and online content and promotional campaigns.”

You’ll be all up in Marvel’s entertainment business, and that’s good if you’re planning to advance at some point. Travel is involved, naturally, and this is my favorite part: “Development of contingency plans as needed.” So Plan B needs to be a regular part of your planning. Probably Plan C, too.

Qualifications aren’t bad. Previous experience is “extremely important” and “foreign language skills” are a plus. So is the ability to work on multiple projects at once with a lot of different organizations and deal with their own crazy people without going all “Jet Blue Flight Attendant” on everyone.

Over in their Consumer Products Group, Marvel is looking for an Associate Manager to “provide business support to category Directors.” You’ll be working closely with “licensed partners to identify opportunities both in category growth and retail distribution in an effort to maximize each line of business.” In other words, don’t leave money on the table when it could be going into Marvel’s pocket, or “find a penny, pick it up” and multiply it by several million.

Lots of meetings, conference calls, research, and liaison work is involved, so the usual self-motivated college graduate with professional office experience (not your mom’s basement start-up) and mad computer skillz who can think creatively is going to be necessary.

So punch up that resume and good luck, job seekers.
