Comic Book Jobs: Who’s Hiring? Marvel And Electronic Arts
Marvel Studios is at it again. This is at least their third job listing in two weeks. Either people are leaving – which seems doubtful – or they’re growing, which given the number of movie and TV projects they have in development and production seems the more likely explanation.
Marvel Studios, the entertainment entity of Marvel Comics and part of the overall Disney Empire is looking for a Senior Accountant for their Manhattan Beach, CA office.
The successful employee will be “focusing on the corporate side of the business (as opposed to our one accountant who is dedicated to supporting productions) based in LA supporting NY based accounting efforts and LA based tracking and analytical efforts.” Whew!
You’ll need direct industry experience in financial planning and analysis and film marketing and distribution finance, but you probably figured that out on your own. The listing does contain this cryptic clause: “Working with Film Ultimates” and if you’re a fanboy accountant too, you probably know what that means as well.
And just because it’s Manhattan Beach doesn’t mean you can bring along any baggage. “Employment is contingent upon successful completion of background investigation. Pre-employment drug screening required.” Also, don’t make Galactus angry. Forewarned.
If you’re not fond of numbers, corporate finance or budgets and are more of the artsy gamer type, then Electronic Arts, the video game giant is looking for people like you. EA is a behemoth and a survivor and they make The Sims, Burnout, Battlefield and Spore, to name but a few (although a lot of us are heavy into Madden Football). They’re looking for an Associate Concept Artist in Redwood Shores, CA. Here’s really all you need to know: “Comic book artists are often well-suited to this job.” So click the link and read no further.
A Concept Artist “sketches ideas for game worlds, characters, objects, vehicles, furniture, clothing, and other content (often starting with hand-drawn pencil sketches).” And while that pencil may be most excellent (I like the Kuru Toga myself), you’ll still need the ability “to draw straight into Fractal Paint or Photoshop using something like a Wacom digital pen and tablet.”
So if you’re tired of drawing Batman punching his Rogue’s Gallery or had enough of Spider-Man swinging through New York City, you might find video games more to your liking.
Good luck, job seekers!
