Comic Book Jobs: Who’s Hiring? Marvel and Disney
Marvel Studios out here on the West Coast must be the happening spot for new hires. This is the second job listing in a week or so, and I originally missed this one because it’s listed through Marvel Comics’ parent company, Disney.
Marvel Studios is looking for a VP in Communication and Distribution in Animation in Manhattan Beach, CA.
You’ll report to the Executive VP, Head of TV, so big props to you, Mr. Powerful. You’ll be working on the “development of objectives and strategic priorities for Marvel Animation and its individual programs in each market around the world.”
This sounds like it’s definitely a suit-and-tie, travel, Bluetooth and buzzword kind of job, so you’ll need not only the experience but the slanguage to back it up. You might even get a nice iPad out of the deal. And if any of you do get the job, let’s talk, because I need a new executive friend in animation.
At the other end of the world, though still part of the vast Disney empire, is Disney Worldwide Publishing which is looking for a “Global Editor.”
I doubt that means you get to travel the world editing books in fancy cafes, but wouldn’t that be a great job to invent for yourself?
Until then, Disney’s publishing empire in New York (and White Plains) wants an editor for its “live-action film team.” You’ll be editing a full list of titles “for all ages, including picture books, early readers, chapter books, novels, novelty, and high-end gift books based on our rich stable of characters and live-action film releases.”
There are a ton of responsibilities – many more than can fit in a 40-hour week, so I’m guessing multi-tasking is the order of the day here.
Still, you’ll be “working with authors, and our Glendale, CA-based art team and White Plains, NY-based design team, as well as our Global Managing Editor, on developing art pools and other content for our event and evergreen properties that can be leveraged globally.”
One of the requirements is “4-5 years experience in an editorial role working in children’s trade books and preferably some experience with licensed characters.” Now that’s a job requirement that could fit any number of current comic book editors, maybe you or someone you know? And if you do get the job, do something with The Scarecrow of Romney Marsh, please?
Good luck, job seekers!
