Comic Book Jobs: Who’s Hiring? Disney

Posted by Tom Mason Categories: Editorials,

Donald DuckThe vast Empire makes more than just movies and TV shows. They also have a huge presence in book publishing.

Their publishing arm in White Plains, NY, just a train ride away from Manhattan, is looking for a full-time publicist. And how is this comic book related in any way?

A couple of worthwhile reasons. One, “Disney Publishing Worldwide develops original, award-winning content (both Disney and non-Disney branded), including Disney books, magazines and comic books.” And, two, as publicist you’ll help with “publicity strategies and plans, along with execution of media relations plans and author tours and appearances.”

That sounds like something that someone who’s worked in, say, a comic book marketing department could easily handle. Let’s look at their checklist: set up and manage author appearances and tours, write publicity materials, handle media relations and media relationships, and coordinate all the social media and online outlets to spread the word. Disney would also like you to handle “general administrative tasks including priority mailings as required.” But, seriously, how many priority mailings will exist in your digital future?

You’ll need three years experience in related fields and the usual written, social and organizational skills to land an interview. But you’ve got that covered, right? If I wasn’t so comfy on the West Coast, I’d pop my resume over.

So good luck, job seekers!
