Comic Book Jobs: Checking Out Craigslist

Posted by Tom Mason Categories: Editorials,

Kick Ass Movie As regular readers know, I’m a lover of Craigslist and its many opportunities that sound just like employment. Here are a few recent ones:

Are you an actor who can play “normal” in a superhero world? Mild Mannered is a new live action superhero web series, and they’re casting. “Mild Mannered is a story about a group of normal people attempting to live their lives in the midst of a fantastical comic book world as best they can.”

If you’d like to pursue your acting career on the other coast, there’s a company looking for a male actor to star in a “fantasy website catering to comic book fans.” You’ll be “acting out comic book style stories while dressed in super hero/villain costumes.” But your face’ll be covered up in case you want to keep your involvement a secret. There’s no nudity, but it’s “a very active role where there will be simulated fighting/wrestling choreography” and some “implied sensuality and simulated fighting/wrestling,” during the one day six-hour shoot.

An unnamed “leading independent comic book entertainment publishing company needs some Los Angeles-based interns for Fall 2010. “This is an excellent opportunity to receive on-the-job experience in a fast paced entertainment publishing company while expanding a network of important contacts within the comic book industry.” And doing errands and getting coffee and bringing doughnuts.

There’s a two-week probationary period for the 3-month internship, and you’ll have to commit to 16 hours a week. It’s unpaid, but there’s the ever-present school credit and the bonus of “Attending comic book and entertainment social functions in the Los Angeles area.”

And finally, “Trigger,” which calls itself an “interactive agency specializing in entertainment and youth brand marketing,” is looking for a “Director of Project Management.” This is a fairly standard office management position with a couple of key differences: you have to be willing to relocate to Shanghai, China as part of the deal, be fluent in both Mandarin and English and “should be enthusiastic and immersed in movies, mobile technology, games, comic books, super heroes and other pop culture that fuel our clients and projects.” It feels like a serious position with a lot of responsibility and an equal bunch of required qualifications.

Good luck, job seekers!
