April Fools: Boom!, DC, Marvel and Captain America

Kim KardashianIt’s April 1, and I think we all know what that means:

Because of the declining sales of single issue comics, “Floppies” will now be referred to as “Limpies.”

Boom! Studios has announced another new title for Kaboom! their kids imprint: The Kardashikins, the wacky adventures of Kim, Kourtney and Khloe when they were children.

Based on its recent cutbacks, cancellations and layoffs, L.A.’s largest manga publisher will change its name to Tokyoplop.

Marvel is so concerned about piracy that for the new Thor movie, they’ve banned The Recorder from the premiere.

To take advantage of product placement in the new Captain America movie, the Red Skull will be called Red Bull.

Image Comics has announced a spin-off to last year’s Officer Downe: Officer Downe Syndrome.

The Lovecraft Society and the Friends of Lulu will merge, creating The Friends of Cthululu.

NBC is still in the super-hero business despite the failure of The Cape. They’ve announced 3 new shows: The Boots, The Gloves, and The Utility Belt.

Batman Inc. is suffering from Q1 losses stemming from late delivery and equipment failure on a dozen new Batmobiles.

In the spirit of The Adventures of Jerry Lewis and The Adventures of Bob Hope comics they published in the 1950s and 1960s, DC is planning The Adventures of Seth Rogen and The Adventures of Jonah Hill.

With Boom! Studios and POW! Entertainment, other companies are getting in on the onomatopoeia: expect titles from Biff!, Bam! and Sock! later this year.

With the constant stream of comic book news and updates, fans can follow Marvel via Facebook and Twitter. Not to be outdone, fans can now follow DC via their newfangled CB radios.

For the proposed sequel to Scott Pilgrim, the characters will be older and Scott will have to fight Ramona’s seven evil ex-husbands.

DC has announced they will cut cover prices to 99¢ and will compensate by giving readers a full 32 panels of story.
