Becky Cloonan Launches KGB Site

American Virgin and Pixu writer/artist Becky Cloonan has just launched the site for her latest web comic, KGB.
Hwan Cho, Cloonan’s friend and collaborative mind behind the series, said of the comic, “[It’s] an epic tale within the Korean music scene in the 90’s. Full of sweat, love and DANCE!”
Set to premiere next week, September 9, the site currently lists and profiles the characters of the story; the comic is expected to be updated weekly.

Comic Book Jobs: Who’s Hiring? Tyrese Gibson, Marvel Digital and Stan Lee!

Just when you thought that it was safe to stop sending out resumes, a few more new and interesting comic book jobs pop up on the digital radar. One’s a freelance job involving Stan Lee, and the others, well, how can they even compare? Let the job hunt begin with three tempting opportunities!
Stan Lee: Well, who wouldn’t want to work with Stan The Man? If it’s good enough for Jack Kirby, Steve Ditko and Pamela Anderson, then it’s perfectly acceptable for you, right? If that’s something you’d like to pursue, there’s an unnamed “L.A.-based film company with studio pictures in the pipeline” that’s jumped into the crowded comic book/graphic novel biz. They’re looking for artists for their books, some of which are proclaimed to be written by Stan. If you have a style that’s “dark and edgy” and can pencil, ink and color (this ain’t best 2 out of 3—they want it all), then a paid gig awaits. Naturally, they’d love it if you already had experience at the usual suspects.

Although there is nothing but the tag line “Live to see last call” written across the otherwise wordless promo for Image’s upcoming series, Forgetless, I daresay that I am rather intrigued.
Hitting comic book stores this December, there’s no word yet as to what we can expect from the so far-enigmatic story. Hopefully we’ll get those details soon; in the meantime, check out the full poster after the jump.

Following up an issue where our protagonist finds love in the midst of ubiquitous regurgitation (among other delightful surprises) would be difficult. That is, of course, unless you’re John Layman and Rob Guillory.
Chew #4 begins with an expected and humorous Applebee-loathing-Chu scene; yet, the rest of the issue takes a path dissimilar from what we’ve seen in this series so far, quelling any doubts (if there were any) that Layman and Guillory can’t keep us interested. In a very Lost fashion, the last issue gave us Amelia, E.G.G., and the creepy guy with a box, only to leave us to our theories as this issue produces a number of different, unrelated (or not?) questions.
This issue, despite my not thinking it possible, gets so much stranger and weirder, making for a very scrumptious read.

Fanboys of a certain age will always remember where they were on Monday August 31, 2009, the day the vast Disney empire, home of Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck and Quentin Tarantino, announced it was buying Marvel Comics, the home of Iron Man, X-Men, Spider-Man and all the rest, at a price of $4 billion.

It takes a lot of talented and creative people to bring a finalized comic book to your local comic book store. Like the movie business, a comic book passes through a series of edits, rewritings, re imaginings, etc. before it even makes it our the door of the production company.
If you think you can’t make comics because you’re not in same league as those big companies, STOP! Just cause the Rolling Stones made hit records, that shouldn’t stop you from writing your own “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction.”

As if Disney didn’t own much of our childhood already, the media conglomerate has now spent an estimated $4 billion to acquire Marvel Entertainment, marking the deal as its largest since attaining Pixar in 2006.
Of the whopping $4 billion the company shelled out to obtain the comic book powerhouse, Chief Financial Officer Tom Staggs points out that any great venture is worth the price tag: “You can’t expect to pay a bargain price for premium assets. Marvel is worth more inside Disney than outside Disney.”

DC Comics Review: Justice Society of America #30

We pick up from where we left off with last month’s issue with the Justice Society of America (JSA) all defeated except Stargirl and The Flash Jay Garrick. For whatever reason, Stargirl must not be harmed. The group of miscellaneous stand ready to take out Jay Garrick when he runs away. He runs to go get help in the form of the new Dr. Fate. A while back there were a series of one-shots called the Helmet of Fate as well as the mini-series Countdown to Mystery that saw the return of an all new Dr. Fate. This Dr. Fate is a legacy character named Kent V Nelson and he is the grandnephew of the original Dr. Fate, Kent Nelson. This was all new to me as I wasn’t aware that a new Dr. Fate was chosen. This Dr. Fate is able to fool the villains into thinking he’s the real deal as far being able to use his powers as well as his predecessor’s.
Fate, Stargirl, and Flash hold off the villains long enough as it gives the other JSAers enough time to recover and regroup. The villains see that the tide has turned on them and run off. Magog wants to run after them. Wildcat wants to retreat as Liberty Belle is hurt and they can’t seem to contact Mister Terrific. Power Girl agrees with Magog, but appeases Wildcat and splits the team up with some heading back to headquarters, while others head after the villains. Magog is portrayed as being more aggressive here. He’s looking at this from a military perspective and wants to stomp out the enemy for good. Something doesn’t seem right with him.

Batman’s Catwoman: Is Megan Fox In…or Out?

If they’re talking about a new Batman movie, you can bet that everyone’s talking about the new villain and that it’s Catwoman’s turn… and also Megan Fox’s. She’s the new “hot” girl, thanks to all those wonderful photos of her on the internet, plus appearances on shows like Jimmy Kimmel Live and also in the Transformers movies and the upcoming Jennifer’s Body.
She’s already shot Jonah Hex (the movie, I don’t think she actually shot the character), and she’s supposed to play Fathom should that actually come to pass. She was once rumored to play She-Hulk, so why not Catwoman? Plus, Salma Hayek is about 10 years too old for Catwoman now.
