Sheryl Crow Suffering From Brain Tumor

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Music,

Sheryl CrowSheryl Crow is suffering from a brain tumor. The Grammy winner and breast-cancer survivor has a common form of brain tumor called a meningioma.

The 50-year-old singer broke the news to a reporter on Monday.

"I worried about my memory so much that I went and got an MRI. And I found out I have a brain tumor. And I was, like, 'See? I knew there was something wrong.' I haven't really talked about it...But it's benign, so I don't have to worry about it. But it gives me a fit," she told Las Vegas Review-Journal columnist Doug Elfman.

She felt concerned when she forgot the lyrics to "Soak Up the Sun" on stage in February and joked to the Florida audience that her brain had failed: "I'm 50, what can I say? My brain's gone to s**t."

"Half of us are walking around with [meningioma] but you don't really know unless you happen to have an MRI. [Sheryl] has no symptoms and everything is fine. It was a random mention during the interview. It was not meant to alarm anyone. She is doing great and is healthy and happy," her representative told E! News.

Ryan O'NealRyan O'Neal's cancer is "under control."

The 70-year-old actor was shocked to learn he has stage four prostate cancer recently, but is remaining positive about his chances of recovery.

"'Why me?' I just sort of chalked it up to bad luck," he said he thought in an interview with Nightline when he heard he has developed the disease. He also told the show he has skin cancer, in the form of a melanoma on his nose, adding, "Welcome to Malibu and the sun."

Ryan added he is spurred on in his fight by thinking of his long term partner, Farrah Fawcett, who lost her battle with cancer in 2009: "Farrah taught me that - about fighting it. Fight a good fight."

Ryan says because his cancer has been diagnosed in its early stages, he is hoping to make a full recovery: "Although I was shocked and stunned by the news, I feel fortunate it was detected early and according to my extraordinary team of doctors the prognosis is positive for a full recovery. I am deeply grateful for the support of my friends and family during this time, and I urge everyone to get regular check-ups, as early detection is the best defence against this horrible disease that has afflicted so many."

Kathy Bates: Why I Kept My Cancer a Secret

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Movies,

Kathy BatesKathy Bates decided to keep her cancer battle a secret because of her work commitments.

The Oscar-winning actress was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2003 but didn't make the news public and says one of the reason was because she had signed up to star in a movie alongside the late Brittany Murphy.

"I was advised to [do so]. I was contracted to go into a movie at that time, Little Black Book with Brittany Murphy, who I miss very much. My doctors at the time, they had to get insurance approval and all of that so I was very quiet about it and had to go back to work right away," she told Anderson Cooper.

Kathy, 63, says she also wanted to go through the experience on her own despite having a supportive network of family and friends: "Nobody else really knows what you're going through except another cancer patient. Even though your family's supportive and surrounds you, I just got to the point where I would go to chemo by myself and just really go through it on my own."

Heather Mills Terrified By Cancer Scare

Heather MillsHeather Mills was left terrified by a cancer scare before Christmas. The 44-year-old former model - who lost her left leg below the knee in when she was hit by a police motorcycle in 1993 - revealed doctors found a tumor in the limb late last year which thankfully turned out to be benign.

"An MRI scan picked up a tumor in the top of my left leg, which is the same one I had amputated below the knee 19 years ago. I had to go back into the MRI machine and they put a dye into it. Doctors said it had been there for some time. It all happened very quickly. Thankfully it was all fine. Doctors told me the tumor was benign, not cancerous," she explained.

Heather has hopes of competing in the 2014 Paralympics skiing competition but admitted she is happiest when enjoying a more leisurely approach to her "miracle child," eight-year-old daughter Beatrice, from her marriage to Beatles legend Sir Paul McCartney.

Giuliana Rancic to Undergo Double Mastectomy

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Television,

Giuliana Rancic and her husbandGiuliana Rancic is to undergo a double mastectomy. The E! News presenter - who revealed she was suffering from the early stages of breast cancer in October - has decided to opt for the procedure after a double lumpectomy failed to fully remove cancerous growths in both breasts and her lymph nodes.

"To be honest, all it came down to was choosing to live and not looking over my shoulder for the rest of my life. It could have come back more aggressively next time, so for me it was just more important to get the cancer out. With the double mastectomy I now have less than one per cent chance of getting it back, otherwise it was 20, 30 or 40 per cent chance and for me it wasn't worth it," she explained on The Today Show.

The 36-year-old star - who made a pros and cons list to decide whether to undergo the procedure - also praised her entrepreneur husband Bill, admitting her cancer battle has made the couple stronger: "Bill said to me, 'I just need you around for the next 50 years, kid. I don't care about the physical portion of this, so let's just get you healthy.' Bill's been the world to me through this, he brought some laughter to the process and reminded me who we are as a couple. It's made us stronger. I couldn't be more at peace with the decision. I still break down some nights when it's quiet in bed, it's easy to just start crying and be very sad, but I'm OK."

Michael Douglas Set to Finish Cancer Treatment

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Movies,

Michael Douglas has just one cancer treatment remaining.

The Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps star, who was diagnosed with a tumor in his throat in August, is currently undergoing eight weeks of chemotherapy and radiation, and will undergo his final session this week. His recovery is then expected to take a further six weeks, with the Oscar-winning actor then to be subjected to periodic check-ups.

“No further treatments are scheduled after this week. He’s really happy about it ending. He was determined not to have a feeding tube, and he didn’t have to have one,” his publicist, Allen Burry, said.

Although the 66-year-old actor is expected to make a full recovery from the illness, he may not make anymore films. Instead, Michael reportedly wants to spend as much time with his family, wife and their two children, Dylan, 10, and Carys, seven, as he can.

“This is a man in the middle of a gigantic fight, and he wants to conserve his energy and resources. If he beats this, he intends to focus on spending time with his family. He looks like he has aged 10 years in weeks,” a friend explained.
