The Mulholland Drive director and his wife Emily Stofle are due to welcome their baby into the world in August and the happy couple cannot wait to meet the new arrival.
"The couple are thrilled at the news and looking forward to meeting their first child together," a statement read.
Although the baby is the couple's first child together, Lynch has three children from previous relationships. The Elephant Man director has an adult daughter, director Jennifer Chambers Lynch, with his first wife Peggy Lentz; he has a 30-year-old son, Austin Jack Lynch, with second spouse Mary Fisk and in 1992 he had another son, Riley Lynch, from his relationship with Mary Sweeney - who worked with him as the co-writer and producer of The Straight Story.
Lynch met Emily when she appeared in his 2006 film Inland Empire, and they married in February 2009.

The "Someone Like You" singer is seven months pregnant by boyfriend Simon Konecki, but has hidden her bump from the public by keeping a low profile and wearing baggy clothes. A source close to the singer says Simon and Adele wanted to keep their happy news a secret for as long as possible to avoid attention. "Adele has barely left the house in recent months, so she could keep this to herself for as long as possible. She stopped exercising a few months ago, and since then it's been all about the baby," a source said.
Other friends say 36-year-old Simon - who has a five-year-old daughter from a previous marriage - and Adele, 24, have been keen to have children since they started dating last year. "Family is very important to them and they've been talking about kids and getting married since they met last September. I think Adele's still quite surprised at how quickly it happened, though. She's clearly got the usual nerves of an expectant mum, but Simon's been amazingly reassuring, they're both so happy," another source said.

Lily Allen is pregnant.
The "Smile singer and husband Sam Cooper - who became parents to daughter Ethel Mary last November - are said to be "thrilled" at the news they "will welcome another child into the world in December.
"Lily has started telling her friends and everybody in her close circle is so excited for her. It was a surprise but Lily and Sam are thrilled. The pair of them have loved every minute of parenthood so far and wanted to expand their brood quickly. So it's great timing," a source told the Sunday Mirror.
Friends admit to being shocked by the news but couldn't be happier for the couple, who married in June 2011 after two years together. "I think everyone is a bit surprised they've decided to have another baby so quickly. But they are great parents and absolutely devoted to Ethel. The pair of them are just delighted they've got another one on the way. They're such a happy family with Ethel. This is really great news," one friend said.

The family celebrated American Independence Day on Wednesday at Malibu Beach, California.
Cam played an evil vampire named James in the saga and the 29-year-old actor worked alongside singers Christina Aguilera and Cher in 2010's Burlesque. He also had a recurring role as Kevin Volchok alongside Mischa Barton in the teenage drama The O.C.
The star can next be seen in the film Free Ride with True Blood actress Anna Paquin. In the film Anna - who is currently pregnant with twins - plays a single mother caught up in the Florida drug trade during the late 1970s and tries to make a better life for her two daughters.

The woman, whom the New Jersey Nets player is thought to have dated following his split from estranged wife Kim Kardashian, is apparently three months pregnant with his child. Sources directly connected with Myla told website TMZ.com that she confirmed she is expecting on Monday.
Myla - who Kris met while she was working in a New York hotel - insists that the basketball player is definitely the father. The news could be used against Kris in his divorce with Kim, because Kris has claimed he was devastated by the break up and suffered emotionally. However it further cements claims that Kris moved on quickly after separating from the reality TV star when she filed for divorce on October 31.
The insider claims that Myla plans to have the baby and wants to raise it alone, because she believes Kris has betrayed her by denying their five-month relationship. The friend also stated that for the past three weeks, Kris and Myla have been communicating regularly, however she has not yet announced the news to the sportsman.

Matthew McConaughey Expecting His Third Child

Matthew McConaughey and Camila Alves are expecting their third child together.
The Magic Mike star and his model wife announced there would be a further addition to the family via his Twitter page today. "Happy birthday America, more good news, Camila and I are expecting our 3rd child, God bless, just keep livin," he wrote.
Matthew and Camila married only one month ago at their home in Texas, United States.
The 42-year-old actor's 29-year-old spouse tweeted the same message just 20 minutes before her partner did.
The couple are already parents to two-year-old daughter Vida, and almost-four-year-old son Levi. When asked on their wedding weekend about their dreams for the future, the couple told People, "More of the same -- and more family!"

The "Rolling in the Deep" singer has confirmed she and her boyfriend Simon Konecki are expecting their first child together and is "over the moon" to be expanding her family.
"I'm delighted to announce that Simon and I are expecting our first child together. I wanted you to hear the news direct from me, obviously we're over the moon and very excited but please respect our privacy at this precious time. Yours always, Adele xx(sic)" she wrote on her website.
In January she had to debunk rumors Simon was still married, saying he had been divorced for four years. "This is the first and last time I will comment on the details of my relationship with Simon. Contrary to reports and headlines in the press today, Simon is divorced and has been for four years. Everyone in our lives separately and together wish us nothing but the best, and vice versa. These are the facts," she said.
Earlier this year, Adele purchased a new mansion in Sussex, England with Simon: "Adele fell in love with the house. She's buying it immediately. It's not as big as the rented place but it's beautiful and they have a gorgeous sea view."

Kourtney Kardashian Horrified by Water Birth

The reality TV star had originally planned on using the delivery method when she gives birth to her second child but after recently attending a friend's water birth, she was shocked at how "brutally painful" it looked, according to TMZ.com.
Kourtney has now decided against using the technique and has instead decided to check into a birthing suite at Cedars-Sinai hospital.
"Witnessed a water birth last night with @KhloeKardashian. What an experience! All I can say is WOW! (sic)" a diplomatic Kourtney wrote on Twitter after the birth.
