On Gear Live: Samsung S95C: The OLED TV You Can’t Afford (to Ignore!)

Kevin CostnerWhat do you do when your movie career fizzles? Well - if you’re Jessica Simpson

, you turn to country music.

Kevin, who was last seen in , recently told People that he will be releasing a country album next month.

While this might seem like surprising news to most Costner followers, the 53-year-old has been moonlighting as a musician for quite some time now. In fact, some of his Modern West band members have been working with him for nearly 20 years. (Not that this qualifies them to sell any tracks or anything.)

The album - which Kevin co-wrote six songs for - is due out on November 11. Assuming the actor doesn’t line up any other acting gigs (he just recently wrapped work on The New Daughter), the band will be out touring by the end of this year. Expect the ladies of to feign interest shortly.

Madonna

Although most women would kill to look even half as good as at age 50, the singer often takes her exercise regime to the extreme.

What do you think? Would you consider her muscular physique to be an attractive feature…or does she ironically appear older than she should?

Diddy

In a recent entry on his vlog, (Diddy) cowered under the covers, spoke in a frightened whisper and admitted to one of his biggest fears: that Sarah Palin, Vice Presidential contender, will become the President of the United States.

, you scare me,” Diddy says dramatically, a single flashbulb illuminating the white sheet surrounding him. “She’s worse than the boogeyman!” He cries, eyes wide and haunted with images of Palin White House.

In the video, Diddy shows a clip of Palin’s interview with Katie Couric and goes on to lament the possibilities of the future. “If I stay under the covers, she won’t become President!” He decides, continuing to cower. View the clip after the jump.

Filibuster Soup

Alright, let’s take a break for just a moment away from the standard news fare. We know that you guys love the gadgets, gizmos, and consumer electronics just as much as we do.  These expensive and cool toys are often a marvel when you break them down to the technology that drives them. That’s what makes what we do fun, and why we love the interaction we have with our readers. However, we want to focus a bit of attention on the young ones in our country who would be happy to have a calculator for use in class, and the teachers who work for districts that can’t afford things like projectors for use in their schools.

Gear Live has joined the 2008 DonorsChoose Blogger Challenge, and we have chosen eight great causes that are centered around getting some basic technology and literature into classrooms located in our local area, as well as some of the hardest areas still suffering the affects of Hurricanes Ike and Katrina. We’ve chosen eight causes that we thought touched on what we believed in, and you can take a look at them and choose which one(s) you want to help. Our goal is to raise $5,000 for the children of our nation. Just know that the money you donate will go directly to that specific teacher request - not into some big pot of money that is then doled out by the organization.

Some of the most expensive purchases for schools are consumer electronics. We believe that all children need to get acquainted with the tools of the future as they learn so they when they are ready to hit the workforce, they can succeed alongside their peers. Please, help us in assisting teachers, children, and schools in low-income areas get the tools they need to help their children excel.

Sophie MonkNatalie Maines

For today’s installment, we have Australian actress Sophie Monk (a.k.a. Benji Madden’s ex-fiancee on the left) and Dixie Chicks’ on the right.

(Make sure to check out more of our Celebrity Double-Takes here, here and here.)

And up until now, I thought Dave only liked to make Paris Hilton squirm.

Last night on the Late Show with David Letterman, the host got his chance to talk to Anne Hathaway - the former girlfriend of con man Raffaello Follieri. Although the actress was primarily on the show to promote her upcoming movie (Rachel Getting Married), she was forced to put on a brave face when the subject of her shady ex came up.

Given the host’s natural tendency to bring up uncomfortable topics, it’s fair to say Hathaway probably expected the line of questioning. That said, I still felt a bit sorry for the girl.

DJ AM at Chris Barker Funeral

Three days after being released from the hospital, DJ AM (a.k.a. Adam Goldstein) attended the funeral for Chris Baker. Baker, one of the four victims from September 20’s crash, was Travis Barker’s close friend and assistant.

Although Goldstein’s burns were mostly covered, injuries to his neck were still visible underneath his green polo. (The attendees were asked to wear Chris’ favorite color to Monday’s service.)

Travis, who was also released from the Georgia hospital yesterday, was unfortunately not able to pay his respects his person. The former Blink-182 drummer, who now (understandably) refuses to fly, is currently en route back to LA via a bus.

Sarah Palin

Pundits and political professionals have spent the last several months repeatedly asking the same question: is America ready to be led by someone who is outside the accepted status quo? In other words, could we have a non-white President? It’s been one of the hottest topics of the year, and it gave a lot of attention with the press. That is, until McCain pulled his trump card.

Otherwise known as Sarah Palin. Attractive, conservative, Yankee-ish and much, much younger than McCain, Palin has helped to change the feel of the entire campaign. Could she change the entire election? The media has been asking, for several months, if America is really ready to be led by a black man. Now, there’s another big question on the table. Is the world ready for the likes of - that self-styled bulldog-in-lipstick-hockey-mom who can’t keep her Yahoo business private and somehow found herself on the nation’s biggest political stage?

Not that it matters much, but doesn’t seem to think so.
