DescriptionAs we approach the 81st Annual Academy Awards, it’s time to update you on one of the most talked about couples from last year’s event.

Although they weren’t as well known as say, Brangelina, Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová made an impression on the few who watched that broadcast. (The costars of Once, were welcomed back onstage when they weren’t able to finish their acceptance speeches.) Unfortunately, the two are no longer smiling as brightly as they were that night.

Over the past year, Hansard and Irglova (along with Glen’s band the Frames) have performed their Oscar-winning song (“Falling Slowly”) around their world and had their film optioned for a musical. They’ve also seen their film-turned-offscreen romance fizzle out.

“It did become a real relationship,” Hansard told the Sydney Morning Herald. “I think it was just a very natural part of what we were doing together. We had made the film. We had gone through so much with the Oscar. Of course, we fell into each other’s arms. It was a very necessary part of our friendship but I think we both concluded that that wasn’t what we really wanted to do. So we’re not together now. We are just really good friends.”

Fortunately for us, the former couple are still together as partners. Glen and Markéta’s new album is still in the process of being released.
