Ray J was hospitalized yesterday after friends discovered he was "out of it."

The 31-year-old singer was said to be "extremely upset" following a confrontation with the family of his deceased on/off girlfriend Whitney Houston at the Billboard Music Awards in Las Vegas the evening before and concerned friends rang for an ambulance after entering his hotel room and saw he couldn't get out of bed.

According to TMZ.com, Ray J was "extremely disoriented and out of it" when friends found him and after being taken to hospital, it is believed he is suffering from a combination of exhaustion and stress. The singer had driven for four hours to the awards ceremony immediately after returning from a 32-hour round trip to China.

He is still being treated in hospital, and it is not yet known when he will be allowed to leave the undisclosed medical facility.

It had been claimed that Whitney's sister-in-law Patricia Houston had tried to have Ray J removed from the ceremony - where the late star was honoured with a musical tribute and the Millennium Award - and even had security called to diffuse the situation. However, a representative for the Houston family says Patricia's assistant asked for him to be removed after an official from the ceremony told them they needed to move to the seat which Ray J was already using, and had a valid ticket for.
