Tiger Woods Drops Out of His Own Tournament
“I am extremely disappointed that I will not be at my tournament this week,” Tiger Woods said in a statement he released Monday. “I am certain it will be an outstanding event and I’m very sorry that I can’t be there.”
Of course he can’t attend the tournament - the media has launched itself into a rabid frenzy since his accident over the weekend, an event which has sparked rumors of everything from substance abuse to cheating on his wife.
So far, the investigation is “ongoing” and any criminal charges in the case are “pending.” Because of it, “Woods will not participate in any other tournaments in 2009 and will return to action next year,” according to a statement released from his reps. The Chevron World Challenge, the event which no longer features Tiger, will carry on as planned.
Woods was leaving his home around 2 a.m. several days ago, striking first a fire hydrant and then a tree on a neighboring property. Police have stated that the crash did not involve alcohol.
