Remembering Wrestling’s Macho Man Randy Savage
As we reported, Randy Savage died today at the age of 58. He has been screaming “ooooooh yeeeaaahhhhh” at us since 1985, and his loss is a blow to all of entertainment, particularly the wrestling world. The investigation is ongoing, but officials say that alcohol was not involved. Savage suffered a heart attack while behind the wheel of his vehicle, and crashed head-on into a tree.

Slim Jim, for whom Savage worked as a longtime spokesman, released an official statement: “We’re saddened by the loss. Randy was a beloved ambassador for the Slim Jim brand for many years and will be greatly missed.”
Vince McMahan, WWE CEO, also released a comment: “WWE is saddened to learn of the passing of one of the greatest superstars of his time… Randy ‘Macho Man’ Savage.”
WWE stars, past and present, have been sounding off on Twitter. The Rock, Dwayne Johnson, writes “RIP Randy ‘Macho Man’ Savage - you were one of my childhood inspirations."
Hulk Hogan said, “We miss him a lot… This was a tough one.” Earlier, he wrote, “I’m completely devastated.” After 10 years with no communication, the Hulk and Savage had only recently started speaking again.
“The untimely passing of randy savage is indeed tragic. All true fans of wrestling will mourn this loss. One of the all time greats,” John Cena tweeted.
“Randy Savage was a true influence and inspiration to me and taught me some very important lessons,in and out of the ring. Rest in peace,” Chris Jericho tweeted.
“In honor of Macho Man I will listen to Pomp & Circumstance, eat Slim Jim’s and double axe handle everyone I see all day,” wrote “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan. “Pomp & Circumstance,” often used as graduation music, was the Macho Man’s theme song.
“Just landed and heard the news about Macho Man….. another sad day for the wrestling business,” Goldberg tweeted.
“Stone Cold” Steve Austin tweeted that Randy Savage displayed “unmatched intensity in the ring. A hellacious performer and terrific promo. A real bad ass. RIP.”
“I just heard the sad news about the Macho Man. Randy Savage was one of my favorite performers, and my heart goes out to his loved ones,” Mick Foley wrote.
