While the stars were getting elaborately styled for their turn on the red carpet, we were digging out comfortable pjs ... the better to judge them with.

Who glittered and looked glamorous on award night? Who tried to sizzle but fell flat? Let's break down the fashion at the 2011 Golden Globes, and pick our own winners and losers for the night.

Michelle Williams looked a bit like a fourth-grader in this flower-bedecked Valentino gown. The cut of the dress isn't flattering and the daisies are all wrong for the red carpet. In this photo, the actress looks as disappointed with her gown choice as we are. It's not the worst look (barely), but it is one we don't want to see again. Better luck next time, Michelle.

Newly-single Scarlett Johansson shimmered in Elie Saab. The flowing, nearly-nude frock beautifully suited ScarJo's fair looks. She went light on the jewelry and swept her hair into an updo to create a truly glamorous red carpet look that makes her a serious contender for Best Dressed.

We have to appreciate Jennifer Love Hewitt for making the bold decision to wear this white Romona Keveza gown, because all she's got going for her on this red carpet is bravery. The oddly-ruffled bodice of this frock completely spoils everything else -- and Hewitt's glamorous updo is completely lost in the visual assault. We can't blame her for not wearing a necklace -- who wants to get their hands next that neckline? Is it the worst look of the night? Could be. The judges are still weighing in.

How adorable is True Grit's Hailee Steinfeld? Take a note, young Hollywood -- this is how you dress for the Golden Globes. Hailee isn't showing too much skin in this dazzling Prabul Gurung number, even while she oozes sophistication and elegance. Her sleek hairstyle pairs wonderfully with the long, clean lines of this gown.

It's awful nice of Angelina Jolie to downplay her own good looks with this green Versace number, which is more suitable for a much older star. Seriously, Angie shouldn't have touched this one until hitting 50. But if Helen Mirren had worn it instead, the gown alone could easily snag a Best Dressed nomination.

Julianne Moore did some public service on the red carpet, illustrating why redheads shouldn't wear hot pink ... or gowns that don't fit. Or nude heels. Okay -- maybe we just don't like the way Moore looks in this Lanvin gown. The off-the-shoulder garment looks wrinkled and nearly swallows Julianne. Moore's bizarre shoe decision and lack of jewelry (no earrings - look closely) seem to proclaim: "I'm running 40 minutes late!" The beautiful actress looks pretty bad here, forcing us to wonder if anyone could have possibly made a worse fashion decision.

Egads! Is that actress Tilda Swinton in Jil Sander, or a walking bedspread? The cream-colored skirt is bulky and unflattering around the waist, the white shirt is too short in the sleeves ... and are those pink shoes on her feet? Suddenly, Julianne Moore's red carpet choice isn't looking so bad, right?

Trust Anne Hathaway to bring glitz and glamour to the red carpet. The actress sparkled in this gold, backless Armani frock. She was elegance all over with a flowing hairstyle and just a touch of glittery jewelry, becoming another serious contender for the Best Dressed title.

Emma Stone was sleek and sexy in Calvin Klein, wearing a melon-colored gown that beautifully complements her new blonde hairdo. The silver clutch and jewelry add the perfect touches to an already stunning emsemble.

Natalie Portman is stunning in this drapey Viktor & Rolf creation that beautifully pairs pale pink with bold red accents. Portman dazzled in diamonds that set off the look and a red clutch that added another pop of color. Her elegant hairstyle and expectant glow help make Portman the Best Dressed of the night.

Yikes. We just don't know what to do with Helena Bonham Carter. The multi-colored Viviene Westwood gown looks more like three frocks put together -- and just how horrible is that swath of black tutu floating across the middle? She chose to pair the gown with mismatched shoes and a wild, mad scientist hairstyle ... and we just don't know what to do, except give Carter the prize for Worst Dressed (of the decade). Even Tilda Swinton can't dispute this hands-down win.
