Miley Cyrus Denies Offending Asians

Miley Cyrus

UPDATE: You can read Miley’s second attempt at an apology here.

I’m starting to wonder—does Miley Cyrus just have a sensitivity chip missing? (Thank you, Jennifer, for letting me borrow that line.)

Last summer, the 16-year-old denied having any beef with Selena Gomez despite a video mocking the young actress. Now the Disney star is somehow denying she offended an entire group of people.

After a picture of a slanted-eye Cyrus came out, most recognized the idiotic move Miley - and her friends - made. But instead of apologizing, as one Asian American advocacy group hoped she would, the Disney star has chosen to take the defensive approach.

On her official website, Miley simply threw the blame on others for misinterpreting the situation:

I’ve also been told there are some people upset about some pictures taken of me with friends making goofy faces! Well, I’m sorry if those people looked at those pics and took them wrong and out of context!

In NO way was I making fun of any ethnicity! I was simply making a goofy face. When did that become newsworthy? It seems someone is trying to make something out of nothing to me. If that would of been anyone else, it would of been overlooked! I definitely feel like the press is trying to make me out as the new ‘BAD GIRL’!

I feel like now that Britney is back on top of her game again, they need someone to pick on! Lucky me! haha Anyway, I just wanted to let you guys know what is on my heart. You guys know me and have been by my side every step of the way!

You guys know my heart and know the most important things to me are my friends, family, fans, and GOD! In NO WAY do I want to disappoint any of you! But, when I have made mistakes in the past, I feel like Ive owned up to them and apologized.

Anyway, I really wish everyone would stop focusing on my personal life and get back to focusing on what I love! Music and Acting! Hopefully, I will be touring again this fall! Yayy! =] It will be a nice change to be back out on the road again!

xoxo Blessings.. Miley =)

While it’s possible Miley and her friends all happened to make the same “goofy face,” there are still a few questions left unanswered:

  1. Instead of faulting everyone for coming to the wrong conclusion, why couldn’t she have simply said sorry? How about a “I’m sorry if I have offended anyone…though that wasn’t my intention” response? Why couldn’t she have just blamed her error in judgment on her youth like she did with the Vanity Fair shoot?
  2. She should know better than anyone how easily pictures can be taken out of context. (Like I’m sure there’s got to be a story behind her photos in the shower.) So why would she stupidly put herself in a position that would inevitably be questioned later?
  3. Why is the only Asian guy in the photo, coincidentally, the only person not posing for the camera?
  4. What does this have to do with Britney Spears? It’s not like the tabloids need someone knew to pick on— they’re still working on Jessica Simpson!
