Legend Elizabeth Taylor Dies
One of the world’s brightest stars has burned out. Movie legend Elizabeth Taylor, 79, is dead. Of late, Taylor had been suffering with congestive heart failure.
Taylor’s career is unequalled in all of Hollywood. Born in London, England to American parents, she became a hugely successful child actress at age 12 with National Velvet. Her career was unstoppable from then on.
She appeared on more than 50 films and created a resume peppered with notable roles. Taylor won two Academy Awards, for her work in Butterfield 8 and Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf, but she also gained acclaim for A Place in the Sun, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof and Cleopatra.

Elizabeth Taylor was a movie legend before she was 50 years old, but she was a tabloid legend long before that. Taylor famously married 8 times, twice to Cleopatra co-star Richard Burton. “I never planned to acquire a lot of jewels or a lot of husbands,” she told Harper’s Bazaar. “For me, life happened, just as it does for anyone else.” E! has put together a photo gallery celebrating Elizabeth Taylor's beauty.
Taylor leaves behind four children, ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
The actress was also an advocate for AIDS research, helping to raise over $200 million for the cause. Her loss has touched people all over the world, from movie stars to the most notable politicians. Many people have stepped forward to share their comments on her death.
"Her legacy will never fade, her spirit will always be with us, and her love will live for ever in our hearts," said her son Michael Wilding.
Former President Bill Clinton and his wife, current Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, also offered a statement: “Elizabeth's legacy will live on in many people around the world whose lives will be longer and better because of her work and the ongoing efforts of those she inspired.”
Shirley MacLaine: “I don't know what was more impressive, her magnitude as a star or her magnitude as a friend. Her talent for friendship was unmatched. I will miss her for the rest of my life and beyond.”
Francois Fillon, current prime minister of France, said that Elizabeth Taylor was “devoted from the youngest age to a limitless passion for film.”
“She was a true star,” said Liza Minnelli (daughter of screen legend in her own right, Judy Garland). “She had not only beauty and notoriety; Elizabeth Taylor had talent.”
Joan Collins: “She was the last of the true Hollywood icons, a great beauty, a great actress and continually fascinating to the world.”
George Hamilton: “The whole world has been in love with Elizabeth Taylor and I was fortunate enough to be one of them.”
Elton John: “She earned our adoration for her stunning beauty and for being the very essence of glamorous movie stardom.”
Barbra Streisand: “It’s the end of an era. It wasn’t just her beauty or her stardom. It was her humanitarianism. She put a face on HIV/AIDS. She was funny. She was generous. She made her life count.”
Whoopie Goldberg: “She was just a magnificent woman. She was a great broad and a good friend.”
VIP Breakdown: "She will be missed, but she will always live on."
