Ed McMahon: Trump to the Rescue
Ed McMahon’s foreclosure troubles are finally coming to a close - and not in the way any of us expected. When the aging star announced his financial problems might soon leave him homeless, the world was shocked and dismayed. But, Ed, you used to announce Johnny Carson! Thanks to multi-millionaire Donald Trump, McMahon can continue kicking golf balls around his property - and the bank can stop breathing down his neck.
The Donald will purchase the McMahon home, circumventing foreclosure and keeping Ed in the style to which he has become accustomed - and the two didn’t even have to get married first. “I don’t know the man, but I grew up watching him on TV,” Trump told the media.
E! Online
McMahon and his wife Pamela currently reside in the six-bedroom, five-bathroom home, and without Trump’s interference might have remained behind in their payments - a truly staggering sum of $640,000. The original mortgage loan was $4.8 million.
Again, this is a home for two people.
McMahon has been on television almost since its inception, becoming well-known to audiences as early as 1957. We’ve all seen him doing commercials, guest-hosting specials and bringing his uncanny charm to the small screen for decades…so how could he possibly be broke? The famous sidekick said that he’s spent more than he’s made over the years (which to me is actually mind-blowing - I’m sure I’d have trouble spending half of what the man has earned), and he’s been unable to work as of late because of physical problems (the star suffered a broken neck one and half years ago). McMahon’s home has been on the market for two years, listed at $4.6 million. According to reports, he paid $2.6 million for the pad back in 1990.
McMahon has been in the middle of a maelstrom of lawsuits for unpaid loans and legal fees since his troubles came to light. He’s even filed his own suits against Cedars-Sinai and the owner of the home where he fell.
Thanks to Donald Trump, perhaps the octogenarian can live his golden years in the comfort he surely deserves. But, as philanthropic as Trump’s actions may seem, I feel the need to look for something more sinister. Is Trump just a nice guy millionaire…or extremely clever at spotting good PR opportunities when they arise?
