Maksim Chmerkovskiy may be an expert on the ballroom floor, but he’s just a regular guy when it comes to proposals.

In the above clip, the 28-year-old Dancing with the Stars competitor and his fiancee, Karina Smirnoff, talk about the night he popped the question.

NOTE TO FUTURE RING BUYERS: The phrase “I’ve been with a lot women” should never be uttered during a proposal.
