Just when I thought Drew Barrymore had finally found someone to grow old with - she had to go and screw it all up.  She actually started talking about it.

Now, it’s not like I’m expecting her to deny her relationship with Justin Long - that would be like Jennifer Lopez skirting questions about her pregnancy.  But we all know how it goes. The minute one starts talking about their new boyfriend publicly, an untimely breakup usually follows.  And it’s not like Barrymore has had much luck when it comes to significant others.  Let’s name just a few:  first hubby Jeremy Thomas, second hubby Tom Green, Strokes drummer Fabrizio Moretti, director Spike Jonze and Hole guitarist Eric Erlandson.

So after viewing her recent string of mushy photos with Long, I was really hoping Barrymore would finally get the whole love thing figured out.  Who knows?  Maybe she still could.

In a recent interview with Vogue, Drew’s good friend says the actress is “with someone who adores her and doesn’t put her down on any level, someone whom she wouldn’t allow to put her down.  And that is such a departure.”  (Uhh - I’d hate to think that she’d be putting up with less up until now.)

Later, when the reporter pressed Long for a quote over the phone, the Live Free or Die Hard star said Barrymore brought “instant light” to mind.  “Beauty and light, and she shines it on everybody who comes into contact with her.”

Wow.  Well, let’s just hope that light doesn’t dim to quickly…
