Weekend Reading: Smallville, Big Nate and Star Wars

I know that we’re all thinking the same thing: how great it is that Michael Rosenbaum is coming back to Smallville for the big series finale. I’m stocking extra Doritos for my goodbye party.
Now that you’re sitting down, why not read a few things:
England: I missed this end of the year interview with head of brand marketing for DC Thomson John Paul Murphy. DC Thomson publishes, among other things, the British comics the Beano, the Dandy and Commando.
Art: After looking at these paintings from Britain’s War Picture Library, I can only conclude two things: (1) Giorgio De Gaspari is a terrific painter and (2) I want to see more!
Nate: Comic Strip Of The Day takes a look at Big Nate. “It is self-deprecating, self-reflective humor delivered on an adolescent level. And it works.”

AT&T is trying to do anything they can to keep their iPhone customers now that the Verizon iPhone is available nationwide. Last week, they sent out a 20% off coupon for accessories, then they announced unlimited voice minutes to any mobile number, and now they are offering 1000 free rollover minutes. All you have to do is send a text message to the number 11113020 with the word "Yes" as your message. You'll get a response confirming the extra 1000 minutes, and letting you know that it may take up to 4 weeks for processing. Yeah, that last part didn't make much sense to us, either.

"Due to continued declines in the music genre, the company will disband Activision Publishing's Guitar Hero business unit and discontinue development on its Guitar Hero game for 2011," the company said in its fourth quarter earnings report.
The move also covers "DJ Hero" games, and Activision said it will also stop development on "True Crime: Hong Kong."
"These decisions are based on the desire to focus on the greatest opportunities that the company currently has to create the world's best interactive entertainment experiences," Activision said.
In a FAQ posted on its Web site, Activision said that based on current demand, the company could not profit from the "Guitar Hero" franchise because of licensing and manufacturing costs.

Google rolls out enhanced 2-step security feature
![](http://assets.gearlive.com/images/member_photos/photo_82729.png)
Posted by Patrick Lambert Categories: Google, Internet,
Back in September, Google introduced the ability to add two-step verification for Google Apps accounts. What this means is that in order to log into your Google account, you not only enter your username and password, but you also enter an ever changing code. The code is sent to you by SMS, or can be found by using an iPhone, Blackberry, or Android app. This security feature makes it so that if someone finds your password by looking over your shoulder, phishing it, guessing it, or sniffing it from whichever network or computer you use, they will be unable to access your account, because they won't have access to this second factor authentication.
Now, Google just announced that they are rolling out the feature for all users. Over the coming days, a new option will appear in the Security tab of your Google Account. The feature is optional, and will allow you to use this option to better protect your account, either by receiving an automated call, SMS, or by using an app on your phone. This only occurs when you need to actually log on, which only happens on a new system or after a few months of use, so you won't need to do this every time you check your email. The process is not completely painless. The sign-up involves registering a backup number and one-time password, and you need to make special cases for apps which may need access to your Google account but do not support this feature, such as a desktop mail app. Still, it's a very good security measure, which everyone should look into.

Do you want to see pretty much every comic book as it's published?
You could, if you worked for the biggest comic book distributor in the USA. That's Diamond Comic Distributors in Timonium, MD, and they're looking for a few people.
First up is a Customer Service & Sales Representative to “field questions, suggestions, concerns regarding Diamond policy, service, etc. from customers in an assigned territory.”
Mostly it’s a lot of “no I don’t know when or if that book is ever coming out.”
Next they want a Domestic and International Sales Account Executive who can “aggressively prospect for new customers and increase our customer base while maintaining a strong relationship with established accounts.”
