Intel’s 510 Series SSD sports500 MBps transfer over 6 Gbps SATA

Intel today announced the latest solid-state drive (SSD) family in its product line: the Intel SSD 510 Series, which is also the company's first to use the 6-Gbps SATA III interface.
According to Intel, the drives in the 510 Series offer "the fastest sequential read and write speeds of any consumer SATA SSD available today," and feature read speeds of up to 500 Mbps and write speeds of up to 315 Mbps—respectively more than twice and more than three times the rates of Intel's current 3-Gbps SSDs. (OCZ announced its own 6-Gbps SSD series, the Vertex 3, last week, and made similar performance claims.)
The 510 Series SSDs are constructed using Intel's 34nm NAND Flash memory, and are targeted at gamers, enthusiasts, and professionals (particularly media creators) who need fast transfer rates. Intel claims the 510 Series is just one of a number of major SSD products it plans to introduce in 2011.

Will we see a white iPad this Wednesday?

We're days away from Apple's March 2 press event, where Cupertino is widely expected to unveil its next-generation iPad. Not surprisingly, the rumor mill is still churning out stories, and today's tidbit is that Apple will unveil a white iPad.
Blog 9to5Mac got its hands on photos of what it says could be second-generation iPad parts - and the frame is white.
Of course, Apple has thus far failed to deliver on its promise of a white iPhone 4; the latest prediction is sometime this spring. Would it really unveil and start selling a white iPad before delivering the white iPhone 4? Or will both devices hit the market at the same time?
All our questions should be answered by Wednesday. For now, all we have is the wild speculation that happens before every big Apple event.

AT&T announced Monday that it will start selling the Amazon Kindle 3G in its retail stores nationwide starting March 6.
AT&T will include the Kindle in its connected devices section. The Kindle 3G will connect to the Web over Wi-Fi and AT&T's 3G network, allowing users to wirelessly download books, magazines, newspapers, and blogs on the 6-inch device. It sells for $189 and can hold up to 3,500 books.

iPhone 5 four-inch screen discovered?

The rumor-mill is once again a-churning over the possibility of a larger-sized iPhone that could compete against its beefier Android cousins. Although Apple CEO Steve Jobs has previously stated his thoughts on the matter -- "No one's going to buy" a larger iPhone—a new picture from an unidentified Chinese iPhone parts reseller offers a tantalizing tease for a larger iPhone to come.
If the picture holds true, then the iPhone 5 would retain the same external look and feel as its predecessors—at least, in terms of how its user-facing panel is constructed. The home button might not be going anywhere, but it would now be centered beneath a screen that's been increased from 3.5 inches across to 4.
Said unidentified company might throw more pictures up, including shots of the rear casing for the allegedly larger iPhone—there's just no indication as to what the timeline for the leaked shots might be. Or, for that matter, just how accurate they are.
Digitimes has previously reported that Apple is planning on bulking up to a four-inch iPhone (screen size, that is) for its fifth-generation device.

A different TV pilot, this one in New York, needs extras for a fight scene between a superhero and a super-villain.
Do you play music? Do you have a band? You could be chosen to be on the soundtrack for a comic book mini-series.
Hound Comics has a deal for the blogging community involving Miami Wizard World 2011 and some press credentials.
An “established and award-winning production company” is looking for an artist to create a style guide for their upcoming animated series.
And finally, the call is out in Canada for “Female Ninjas.”

Comic Book Jobs: All Over The World

Comic books are popular all over the world, and so, it seems, are comic book jobs. Let’s travel:
In Durban City, South Africa, an art team developing an African tribal comic book and they’re looking for “African women to pose for stock photos for it.” The twist? It’s for a Canadian comic book. Go figure.
In Mumbai, India, ACK Media (Amar Chitra Katha Pvt. Ltd.) is looking for a Senior Manager Business and Channel Development person. Your main job would be to “develop new channels (e.g., malls, SMS ordering, in flight magazines) for selling our comics, books, DVDs, soft toys and other products.”
If that doesn’t work for you, they’re also looking for: Senior Finance Manager, Senior Manager Marketing and Strategic Alliances, Product Manager, and a Human Resource Manager.

Weekend Reading: Dwayne McDuffie, Bill Crouch and Wulf The Barbarian

So, so sorry to hear that Dwayne McDuffie passed away earlier this week. I hate it when a good guy and a terrific writer goes too soon - from his work at Milestone Media, to his animation writing on Ben 10 and other series, it felt like he had a lot more to say that I wanted to read and see.
Rich Johnston at Bleeding Cool had a nice reminiscence of his interactions with Dwayne.
And Heidi MacDonald at Comics Beat also weighed in with some very nice thoughts.
Tom Spurgeon at The Comics Reporter has a round-up of various links to posts about Dwayne. Condolences to his family and his many, many friends on their loss.
Also sad to hear that comics historian Bill Crouch has passed away.
CG: Animation historian Michael Barrier does not like computer animation a technique “creating mechanical, manipulative series of films that don't capture the magic of the yesteryear.”

Comic book jobs come up in the oddest places, and now here’s one where a medical background could really help you out.
Medikidz is a “multimedia company founded by two doctors to explain medicine to young people in a way they can understand.”
How do they do this? Mostly through comic books with titles like What's Up With Rachel? Medikidz Explain Brain Tumours and What's Up With Tiffany's Dad? Medikidz Explain Melanoma.
Each of their diseased-based comics “is written by a specialist doctor in the field. It is then peer reviewed by a leading consultant, to ensure medical accuracy.
Now they need a Medical Writer on staff to help them out and make sure the doctor-writers are staying on message and delivering interesting comics.
