Ugh. Seems Danny Bonaduce’s star hasn’t fallen just yet. Following last fall’s train wreck on VH1, Breaking Bonaduce, you would think he wouldn’t be in such hot demand. Well, the Game Show Network (GSN) is ready to take him on as the host of their newest show. Bonaduce will be the host of Starface, a game show where the challenges are based on celebrity gossip. Says Bonaduce of the show, “This is the weirdest show I’ve ever done by leaps and bounds.” I guess Breaking Bonaduce gave him the exposure to get other offers as well—his story will be the subject of an upcoming A&E biography, plus he has had several high-profile radio offers.

Julianna Margulies on Sci Fi Channel Series
Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Sci-Fi/Horror, Cable, Talent,
Following her rise to fame on ER, Julianna Margulies left the show for what promised to be bigger things. Then she seemed to leave the spotlight, with movie roles here and there, but nothing too memorable. Now Margulies returns to the small screen for a Sci Fi Channel limited series, titled The Lost Room. In it, she plays a woman who contacts a detective (played by Peter Krause) about the death of her brother – who was killed for a motel room key that unlocks a room full of power. The six-hour series will premiere in December. Margulies will also appear in upcoming episodes of The Sopranos and in the film Snakes on a Plane, with Samuel L. Jackson.

Well, in light of Mel Gibson’s recent incident, it doesn’t come as much of a surprise that ABC has canceled the miniseries that Gibson was working on about the Holocaust. Even Mel’s best attempt at an apology couldn’t smooth the waters enough to keep the series afloat. For those living in a bubble—or just disinterested in entertainment news—Gibson was arrested on suspicion of a DUI early Friday morning. As if that wasn’t bad enough, he mouthed off at the arresting officer, spouting anti-Semitic remarks. He made a public apology on Saturday, stating that he has entered rehab to treat his alcoholism. An ABC spokeswoman said that they canceled the project because they had not seen a first draft of a script in two years, but made no mention of Gibson’s incident.

Jessica Simpson and Rosie Reunited
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Daytime, Talk Shows, ABC,
Whether you’ll be watching as interested fan or a catty voyeur, the September 5th edition of The View could be a day to note. Not only will Rosie O’Donnell be taking over Meredith Viera’s seat that day, but her first guest will be Jessica Simpson. Rosie’s history with Simpson goes way back to her original talk show days. Long before Simpson was a household name, Rosie gave her a chance when no one else cared. Apparently, Jessica’s appearance is her way of paying back. That, and it gives her an opportunity to plug her upcoming album.
While I really have no interest in either celebrity, the show will definitely be on my Tivo. Any Joy/Rosie remarks about Star Jones would definitely outweigh any nauseating fawn-over-Jessica moments. Besides, that’s what the fast-forward is for.

Vince and the boys are heading to the agency. Ari has another ‘surprise’ for Vince and has asked them to stop by. Drama uses the car ride as an opportunity to read aloud the pilot’s script. The audition Lloyd scored for Drama will give him an opportunity to work with Ed Burns. Given Drama’s history with Ed, he believes he will have a good chance of getting the part. Meanwhile, Lloyd has been swamped answering calls all day at the office. Word about Ari’s new building space has leaked and now their lines have been flooded with inquiries. Although Lloyd hate lyings, Ari insists that he continue to deny, deny, deny.

American Idol Winner’s Upcoming Movie
Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Drama, Music, Prime Time, Cable, FOX, American Idol,
American Idol‘s third season winner, Fantasia Barrino, will bring her life story to a TV movie titled Fantasia: Life is Not a Fairy Tale. Fantasia has made it well known that her past was difficult, first in a book and now in a Lifetime movie to air on August 19th. In the movie, American Idol producers are shown urging her to withdraw from the competition because she was an unwed mother and high school dropout. Fox is not taking the accusation lightly, with Idol executive producer Ken Warwick telling the New York Post, “We knew she had a baby right from Day One, and she was always strongly tipped to win the competition because she was so good. I can absolutely refute that nothing was done, or even remotely suggested to her that she shouldn’t take part in the competition. It’s a complete fabrication.”
Fantasia will play herself in the movie, and hopes to inspire others to overcome the obstacles they face.

MTV Turns 25—With Little Fanfare
Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Music, Reality, Cable, News, Video,
A milestone for MTV—25 years (man, don’t I feel old?)! You would think MTV would pull out all the stops with an all-star celebration, a walk down memory lane, and oh-so-much-more. Looks like that’s not the case however, as MTV will be quietly celebrating their 25th. For those of us old enough to remember the pioneering moment when MTV splashed in our face, it’s a bit sad to think they aren’t embracing their age. MTV premiered on August 1st, 1981 at midnight, with the first video by The Buggles’ (appropriately called “Video Killed the Radio Star”). Ah, I long for the good ‘ole days, when they actually played music videos!
Re-live some of the great moments of MTV at USA Today. Hey MTV—you don’t look a day over 20 to me!

While Roger Ebert recovers, Jay Leno and Kevin Smith will be populating the balcony on Ebert & Roeper in his absence. I’m not sure what credibility Leno has for film reviews, but I bet Kevin Smith will have a thing or two to say about the films being reviewed. Leno, of course, is the host of NBC’s Tonight Show and will serve as the first guest co-host for the review show while Ebert continues recovery after cancer surgery last month. Tune in on the August 5-6 episode to see Leno review Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, Miami Vice, Little Miss Sunshine, The Night Listener and Shadowboxer. Says Roeper of Leno’s guest stint, “America knows Jay as the country’s most popular late-night talk show host, but I know him as a guy who loves movies and loves to debate movies with Roger and me—both on camera and backstage at The Tonight Show.”
Kevin Smith takes on the challenge for the August 12-13 episode, but there’s no confirmation of the films he’ll be reviewing yet. I’m just wondering if there’ll be any digs against Joel Siegel, the film critic who recently walked out on Smith’s new feature, Clerks II.

Another New Lost Cast Member Promises Romance
Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Drama, Prime Time, ABC, Lost, News,
Elizabeth Mitchell is joining Lost as a potential new love interest for Jack (played by Matthew Fox). Mitchell was Kerry Weaver’s girlfriend on ER, and interestingly enough, the lesbian lover to Angelina Jolie’s Gia. Mitchell will play Juliet, who has the potential to upset the previous Jack-Kate-Sawyer love triangle that was established in the first two seasons of the series. According to Carlton Cuse, Lost executive producer, “I wouldn’t call [Season 3] the season of sex, but I will say that romance will play a much more active part of the show this year.” It’s unclear as to whether Mitchell’s character will be on the island, part of a flashback, or in the parallel “real world” that the show is starting to reveal. And still, there is one more casting announcement yet to be made, as Cuse previously said that three new people would be joining the cast (we previously mentioned the casting of Rodrigo Santoro).

Three New Employees Join The Office
Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Comedy, Prime Time, NBC, Daily Show, The, The Office,
Oh my, I don’t know if I can handle more characters on The Office. The cast is just too perfect… so what will happen when three new people join the payroll? I wouldn’t want them to spoil a great thing, but the new additions will certainly spice things up anyway. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Ed Helms, of The Daily Show, and Charles “Chip” Esten, of Whose Line Is It Anyway?, will be series regulars. Rashida Jones, from Boston Public, will join the third season in a recurring role. Helms and Jones will be new employees, while Esten reprises his role as the regional manager from another Dunder-Mifflin branch (seen previously in the Valentine’s Day episode). Does that mean that Helms will be leaving his post at The Daily Show? If so, he will surely be missed—of course, reuniting with former Daily Show alum Steve Carell on one of the hottest shows on primetime isn’t such a bad deal.
