Demi Lovato at 'The X Factor' premiereDemi Lovato was slammed for her use of auto-tune on The X Factor last night.

The "Skyscraper" hitmaker had agreed with fellow judge Simon Cowell when she criticized pop hopeful Shawn Armenta telling him perhaps a singing career wasn't for him. "A lot of people work really, really hard for their dreams, but it's not meant for everybody," she said. The 50-year-old wannabe responded by saying, "That's why you use auto-tune and I don't."

New judge Britney Spears marked her debut in a big way, challenging music mogul Simon for his position as harshest judge. She leaped to the defense of Demi, telling Shawn, "I feel uncomfortable with you even staring at me." The 30-year-old pop superstar heavily criticized performers throughout the auditions, telling fitness instructor Amy Gibson that she was "kind of bad."

Britney SpearsBritney Spears finds judging on X Factor "electrifying."

The "Hold It Against Me" hitmaker - who joined the show alongside Demi Lovato after Nicole Scherzinger and Paula Abdul were sacked after one season - admits she was terrified when she first signed up but eventually got into the rhythm of the talent search. "I was really nervous. You have all these people behind you and you know they're rooting on you. It's a really exciting, electrifying thing to do," she said, speaking on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

Speaking about her judging style, Britney says she learns from the show's head judge Simon Cowell and always tries to be honest. "I used constructive criticism. I learned from the best. I prefer to be honest. I think that's the best way to go. I wouldn't want to be told something and then waste seven years of my life. I feel like it's the thing to do," she added.

However, Simon - who judged the UK version of the show before heading up the US adaptation - was shocked at how quick she made her decisions about wannabe pop stars. "I've never heard someone say no to contestants to quickly in my entire life."

Randy JacksonRandy Jackson will remain as a judge on American Idol.

Although it was thought that the music producer - who has been on the panel of the show since it began - would take on the role of a mentor behind the scenes for the upcoming season, he has agreed a deal with Fox to stay on as a judge after negotiations with Enrique Iglesias fell though, according to Deadline.

"Just heard Randy is back on Idol. Right decision," Randy's former co-star Simon Cowell wrote on Twitter, appearing to confirm the news.

Randy will join Mariah Carey on the four person panel which is also expected to feature Keith Urban and Nicki Minaj. Mariah is not thought to be a fan of Nicki's, although producers are delighted at the prospect of conflict between them both. Instead, the "Fantasy" hitmaker is said to be keen for Lenny Kravitz to sign up to the show.

Enrique IglesiasEnrique Iglesias has been offered a judging role on American Idol.

The "Hero" singer has reportedly been given the chance to join Mariah Carey - the only person confirmed to appear on the new panel so far - when the 12th series of the show returns next year. Website Entertainment Weekly says he has been offered $4 million to appear on the talent search show.

If Enrique does take the role, he will have been in a good position to pick up tips from ex-judge Jennifer Lopez - who quit this year after two seasons - over the last few months as he has been touring with her. Longstanding panelist Randy Jackson is thought to be stepping into more of a mentor role, while producers are thinking of expanding the judging desk to include four people.

In the frame are said to be rapper Nicki Minaj, Australian country artist Keith Urban and pop singer Adam Lambert.

Khloe KardashianKhloe Kardashian is reportedly the frontrunner to host the US version of The X Factor.

The 28-year-old reality star impressed TV bosses with her bubbly personality and witty comebacks during her screen test, and producers including Simon Cowell want her to present the Fox reality show in a bid to attract younger viewers. "There's at least an 85 per cent chance she'll get the job," a source told TMZ.

The Keeping Up with the Kardashians star is said to be the first choice over other contenders including Kelly Osbourne, Mario Lopez and Stacy Keibler in the fight to replace Steve Jones as the host of the show's second season.

The feisty socialite recently expressed her interest in the presenting job, saying, "I'm a big fan of The X Factor. I've always wanted to do hosting or talk show hosting, so it's definitely something that I would love to do and would be honored to do. To be on such a huge show like that with those judges, I would have so much fun doing that. I love Simon (Cowell). I think he's amazing."

Jack and Sharon OsbourneSharon Osbourne has slammed NBC for being ungracious.

The 59-year-old presenter - who quit her role on America's Got Talent because she claims the network fired her son Jack Osbourne via email from reality show Stars Earn Stripes following his diagnosis with multiple sclerosis (MS) - wants to be more selective about who she works with now she is getting older.

"I'm going to be 60 in October. So I'm at the age where I really want to work with people who I want to. And I felt that the network were not gracious. They handled the situation horribly. They've been backtracking, they've been not gracious with me at all," she said, explaining her decision to quit America's Got Talent.

Sharon admitted she is upset at leaving the show but she doesn't want to be a "hypocrite." Speaking on CBS This Morning, she said, "I love my principles and my son more [than America's Got Talent.] I would be a hypocrite if I went, 'Hi guys, how are you doing today?' I'm not that person. They don't like me, and I don't like them. They're stuck with me until next week. They don't want to be, believe me. But I'm going to turn up, and I'm going to do my final show and then I'm going to say 'bye.'"

Ellen DegeneresEllen Degeneres received the 2477th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Tuesday.

She later added, "So excited to see fans here at the W Hollywood to see me get my star on the Walk of Fame! Come down if you can!"

Ellen was cheered on by Ryan Seacrest and Jimmy Kimmel and revealed she was thrilled people would now be walking all over her: "It is amazing. I spent my entire career trying to conduct myself in a certain way making sure no one walks all over me only to get to a point where people are going to walk all over me. It means so much to me that everyone showed up."

Randy JacksonRandy Jackson has left American Idol as a judge.

The music producer - who has been on the panel of the show since it began - will instead become a "mentor" behind the scenes, as producers still want him involved. "There's some concern among the brass that Jackson is not well-suited for the mentor role... but they feel they need him because he's the glue that helps keep the show together," a source told TMZ.

Mariah Carey has already signed on to be a judge on the show - after Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler quit - and Nicki Minaj is expected to be another new addition. Mariah is not thought to be a fan of Nicki's, although producers are delighted at the prospect of conflict between them both.
