On Gear Live: 2024 Nissan Z Nismo Review

Mr and Mrs SmithThe surprise hit of last summer, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, delighted fans of all ages. It didn’t hurt that the leads were especially delectable. ABC just announced that they will be developing a television series based on the film, which followed the adventures of a husband and wife who were both assassins, unbeknownst to each other. The pilot is expected to air in the 2006-2007 TV season. Could this be a new trend, mining the big screen instead of thinking up original ideas? Ah, well. As long as the result is entertaining!

Oprah James FreyThe power of television - a disgraced man can’t even catch his breath before the lawsuits begin. Ain’t America beautiful?

Lawsuits were prepared the very afternoon Oprah’s show aired, after James Frey revealed he had fudged parts his ‘memoir.’ Interestingly, it’s the readers who are demanding restitution, and suits already number more than a dozen.

This debacle has stirred up questions of ethics on a personal level, as well as in the publishing and television worlds. Several readers are suing Frey’s publishers for false representation, and there is even talk about suing the queen of talk TV, Miss Winfrey herself, for passing on ‘lies’ as truth without careful research. Some readers have sided with Frey, claiming that as long as the book has helped people, it shouldn’t matter if it is entirely true. But most readers, like Oprah, seem to feel betrayed.

What do you think? Who is in the wrong here? Does it make sense for a reader to try to gain $10 million for feeling ‘betrayed?” Does Oprah, as well as Frey, owe us an apology? Please let us know what you think.

What's On TV

It’s a great night for television! Too bad President Bush’s undoubtedly boring and awkward State of the Union Address will mess up everything!

American Idol, 8pm, FOX. The auditions continue, as Simon recovers from last week’s hissy fit.

Gilmore Girls, 8pm, the WB. If you only see one show tonight, make this the one. We were lucky enough to view an advance copy, and trust us, it’s good. Before the night is over, there will be a blowup, a Friday Night Dinner fight to beat all others, the ruin of an editor, an eviction that leaves a main character homeless, a rekindled romance, and well…you’ll see.

Fear Factor, 8pm, NBC. Tonight, mothers and sons pair up to challenge themselves with death-defying stunts and bug eating!

State of the Union Address, 9pm, every darn channel! Stupid speech. Don’t they know how important Tuesday night TV is?!

Supernatural, 9pm, FOX. Hottie brothers continue their fight against ghoulies and beasties.

The Shield, 10pm, FX. This critical darling and fan favorite ups the grit and the gore tonight. Good times!

Tuesday’s post-8pm choices are much weaker than usual, with most networks opting for repeats. And we all know why. Stupid speech.

Commander in Chief

As we’ve been hearing lately, the approval ratings for the President of the United States have been reaching all-time lows.  Now just one day before Pres. Bush’s State of the Union speech (snore!), ABC is delivering news about their own fictional POTUS:  her ratings stink too.

Despite early success for the first-term show - and a recent Golden Globe win for Geena Davis - it seems that the novelty may have worn off for President Allen’s constituents.  (Of course, the powerhouse better known as American Idol probably had something to do with that).  Not even bothering to stick it out through the upcoming February sweeps, ABC is already putting the show on hiatus to make room for the network’s new comedic offering: Sons & Daughters.

Of course, ABC execs claim that they are not abandoning the show— they are simply allowing it to return in the spring with all new episodes.  Because watching new show uninterrupted, as opposed to

not at all

, makes a lot more sense?

Description
Here at TV Envy, we like to look back on the past week of television and note the truly shining moments.

This week’s winner is last night’s episode of Grey’s Anatomy. The episode, entitled Break On Through, lived up to its name with two notable character breakthroughs. First, Izzie shocked viewers with the revelation of the baby girl she’d had at sixteen, an experience which led her to recommend adoption to a teenage mother.

This moment was especially effective because of the surprise factor, and best of all, because we finally were able to learn more about the background our beloved Izzie is so reluctant to disclose. Then the moment viewers have been waiting for - Meredith let down her frosty wall after a dying patient reminded her of her mother.

Overcome with sobs, the usually tepid Meredith collapsed on the floor inside a closet. Followed by perennial love complication McDreamy, Meredith avoided a near-kiss and left, leaving McDreamy on the floor, to watch her leave, for a change. This wonderful personal triumph promises fascinating breakthroughs for Meredith.

Now this is good television.

Description
Scream sensation Matthew Lillard continues his ‘regular guy caught up in a strange situation’ persona in this new FOX show with a fascinating premise.

13 Graves revolves around Matthew McQueen, a former fortune finder who travels across the country looking for his missing brother.

The story coincides with a search for Incan gold believed buried by Spanish conquistador Francisco Pizarro in 13 underground chambers throughout present-day U.S.

This sort of a Supernatural meets Survivor theme sounds truly fantastic. We’ll give it a try.

Kyle Chandler2004’s hit film Friday Night Lights will soon appear as a television pilot on NBC. Early Edition hottie Kyle Chandler will play ‘by the book’ coach Eric Long, originally portrayed by Billy Bob Thornton, struggling to produce a team of winners in a tiny Texas town. The show’s subject—and wildly appealing lead—seems to ensure a success. We’ll definitely be tuning in.

DescriptionMatthew Perry, who played loveable doofus Chandler on the long-running Friends, will soon return to network television. An ex-Friend has yet to be truly successful in a return to television: Lisa Kudrow’s attempt was almost immediately cancelled, and Joey has never been particularly impressive. Will Perry be the first to break through the so-called Friends curse? (There’s also a ‘Seinfeld curse’ and ‘Brady Bunch curse’…apparently, starring in a successful television show has some sort of karmic payback.) In the still untitled drama, Perry will play a genius comedy writer on a show very much like Saturday Night Live,   who is forced out of his coveted position.

Aaron Sorkin, who created the project with Thomas Schlamme, wrote Perry’s part with the actor in mind.

“A lot is going to be asked of this cast,” Sorkin and Schlamme said. “We still have a number of roles to fill to complete the ensemble, but you couldn’t hope for a better start than these incredibly gifted actors.”

Written by Sorkin on spec, the drama ignited a bidding war between NBC and CBS that resulted in a monster deal with NBC said to include a fee of more than $3 million for the pilot.

The project, previously known as Studio 7, reunites Perry with Sorkin and Schlamme after the actor’s guest stint on The West Wing earned him Emmy nominations in 2003 and 2004.

Perry was in high demand this pilot-casting season, with a number of projects at various networks courting him for the lead. He is the third Friends star to return to series television after Matt LeBlanc’s turn in the ratings-challenged Friends spinoff Joey and Lisa Kudrow’s starring role on HBO’s short-lived The Comeback.
