Reminder: Pushing Daisies Returns Tonight

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Comedy, Drama, Prime Time, ABC,

Pushing DaisiesYes, the day has finally arrived…

Tonight fans can rejoice in the long-awaited, albeit brief, return of the delightfully quirky show. The ratings-starved program was shelved back in December and has been collecting dust ever since. This evening’s episode - plus the two to follow - will officially close the chapter on the program’s second season. (The July 21 DVD release will also do the same.)

Unaired episodes of Eli Stone and Dirty Sexy Money will then occupy the Saturday 10:00 PM shot following Daisies’ June 13 finale.

Months after pulling Pushing Daisies, and Dirty Sexy Money off the air, ABC has had a change of heart. Kind of.

Even though it looked like fans would have to wait for the eventual DVDs to view unaired episodes, the network has chosen to broadcast the remaining hours. Unfortunately, all three shows will be placed on the week’s most undesirable night: Saturday. But hey - at least we’ll have something to watch on our weekends now, right?

Get your Tivos ready by the end of May. Pushing Daisies will run May 30 - June 13, Eli Stone will follow from June 20 - July 11 and will close shop between July 18 - August 8. The trio will all air @ 10:00.

Tuesday Ratings: CBS Breaks 13-Year-Old Record

What do you get when House is a repeat and DWTS is gone? Another stellar evening for CBS. Despite a two-hour Biggest Loser finale, the Eye network had its best Tuesday viewership since 1995. Meanwhile, a strong night of reality helped NBC tie CBS in the demos.

The Biggest Loser's Michelle Aguilar8pm

  • (19.9 million, 3.9/11 in 18-49) had its largest audience in its six-year history.
  • Approximately 11.7 million watched Michelle Aguilar win (4.5/12).
  • ‘s Charlie Brown Christmas (2.9/8) kept 8.3 million entertained.
  • * (6.4 million, 2.4/7) lost 7.5 million.
  • * (1.1 million, 0.5/1) was down a smidge.

Tuesday Ratings: House, Repeats Top the Night

Thanks to a nice showing from House, FOX was able to nab the demos last night. Unfortunately, the network still couldn’t completely overpower a slate of repeats on CBS.

Tuesday Ratings: The Mentalist Keeps Getting Stronger

Who knew Simon Baker could get any hotter? Last night - thanks to the absence of DWTS - a very good show managed to get even better. The Mentalist even outperformed the always strong NCIS.

Simon Baker in The Mentalist8pm

  • (18.5 million, 3.7/10 in 18-49) picked up 300,000.
  • (12.4 million, 5.0/13) had the night’s best demos.
  • ‘s presentation of Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town (3.1/8) entertained 9 million.

ABC Cancels Dirty Sexy Money, Pushing Daisies and Eli Stone

Pushing Daisies

What I feared would probably happen has now just come true. ABC has given the ax to Pushing Daisies. And Dirty Sexy Money. And Eli Stone.

Although an earlier draft of the midseason schedule hinted at this possibility, it was unclear at that time whether the shows were simply going on hiatus. Now we know the sophomore programs will wrap up production after 13 episodes. (If and when those hours will even air is another matter.) While no one is officially using the word “canceled,” it’s unlikely these titles will see any significant ratings boosts in the weeks to come.

Tuesday Ratings: CBS and FOX Each Take Half

Although numbers were down for all CBS shows, the Eye network still did enough to win with the viewers last night. Meanwhile, FOX - with help from Fringe and House - was #1 again in the demos.

Tuesday Ratings: NCIS Has Its Best Night Ever

I just can’t wait to see what happens when American Idol finally comes around. Last night, NCIS - a show in its sixth season - had an evening to remember. The show not only saw its best demo performance in approximately a year, it had its largest audience ever. The Mark Harmon program went on to help CBS win with the the viewers while FOX was on top with the demos.

Tuesday Ratings: The Mentalist Has Best Outing to Date

Maybe CBS has a repeat of Fringe to thank? Whatever the reason, The Mentalist hit a season high last night with its sixth episode. The freshman series then helped out Without a Trace’s numbers. All this activity gave the the network its best Tuesday since December ‘07. Unfortunately, House‘s hot demos meant FOX still had the lead last night in the 18-49 group.

Simon Baker8pm

  • (17.1 million, 3.4/9 in 18-49) did the same as last week.
  • (13.1 million, 5.3/14) killed in the demos.
  • ‘s presentation of It’s The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown (3.4/9) had 10.4 million reminiscing.
  • (8 million, 3.1/9) packed on 700,000 more pounds.
  • (1.6/4) returned to 3.2 million.
