On Gear Live: 2024 Nissan Z Nismo Review

Jason Alexander-Seinfeld‘s Jason Alexander has signed up to be the new face of Jenny Craig. I’m not sure I want to see a bathing suit commercial in his future.

-Oscar nominee Laura Linney will star in The Big C, a new series for Showtime. In case your mind went elsewhere, that “C” stands for “cancer.”

-Former Nightline anchor Ted Koppel could be returning to his old network. ABC is reportedly hoping he’ll replace GMA‘s George Stephanopoulos on This Week.

-Is there another Law & Order franchise on the horizon? NBC is currently entertaining a Los Angeles-based version of the show.

-The numbers may be lousy, but someone’s still watching Heroes. The NBC series was the most-pirated program last year. Lost was second while Prison Break came in third.

NBC’s documentary about Farrah Fawcett’s cancer struggle put up a good fight against a string of finales. Although the Eye network was a winner with the viewers, the Peacock tied CBS in the demos.

Although CBS’ lineup faced two season finales on ABC, the network’s numbers actually improved. CBS almost doubled what its nearest competitor did with the viewers.

At this point, no one-two combination could possibly help FOX’s Friday. The network’s recent attempt to pair Prison Break with Dollhouse resulted in dismal numbers.

Prison Break‘s long absence did not make the heart grow fonder. After months off the calendar, the retiring series returned to a new day and disappointing numbers. CBS’ slate of repeats wound up winning the night in viewers while ABC placed first in the demos.

Prison Break

(You can view TV Envy’s Midseason Programming Schedule here.)

MONDAY 4/13)
  • Chuck (NBC, 8pm):  “When Chuck’s father is abducted by Fulcrum forces, Chuck attempts to rescue him by putting his faith in a most unlikely person—his double-crossing ex-girlfriend, Jill ().” Well, she is fast and furious.
  • Dhani Tackles the Globe (Travel, 9pm):  “Dhani visits Spain’s Basque region to learn about jai alai, a fast-paced ball game that’s been called “ballet with bullets.” That’s one performance of The Nutcracker I would probably sit out.
  • Roommates (ABC Family, 9pm):  “Hope’s father makes a surprise visit and tells her to come home because he’s unhappy with her job situation.” Doesn’t he, like, understand how hard it is out there? He’s so lame.
  • 24 (FOX, 9pm):  “Jack’s daughter returns.” Because the worst day in Daddy’s life just wouldn’t be the same without her.

Prison Break

To be perfectly honest, I never suspected would last beyond the first season. Like, who wants to watch some guys endlessly fail to break out of a jail? I always wondered where the show could possibly go, but FOX managed to surprise even me. Prison Break won awards, generated tons of buzz and enjoyed a four season run. But now, it’s all over.

Prison Break had a hell of a run, but the run has ended,” stated Kevin Reilly, FOX president, at a recent press event. “This will be the last year of the show.”

The official excuse is that the show has naturally “played out,” but the ratings for the drama have been decidedly down this year. So…how much longer will fans have to enjoy the show? “We’ve got our remaining batch of four episodes, and there are a couple more they’re contemplating,” said Reilly. Could these “couple more” episodes be the series finale or a movie-type ending?

Reilly says that a “really cool ending” is planned, and that “it’s a hell of an idea.”
