UPDATE: Drew Lachey New ‘Dancing With The Stars’ Co-Host
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Prime Time, Reality, ABC, Dancing With The Stars,
To fill the beautiful sidekick role left open by Samantha Harris, the Dancing With The Stars producers turned to….Drew Lachey. The Season 2 winner—and scheduled host of the DWTS spin-off ‘Dance War’—will help make Tom Bergeron look good until Harris’ return (assuming she doesn’t enjoy her maternity leave too much).
As for the competition, tonight’s episode was all about the ladies. (The male contestants will take the stage Tuesday night). Except for the stick-thin yet uncoordinated model Josie Maran (who scored a dismal 16), the women overall did very well on their first time out. But the night was definitely owned by Cheetah Girl Sabrina Bryan. Her fierce and precise moves got her very near a perfect score on Day One (she scored a 26). Will this finally be the season for another female champion? We should probably size up the men tomorrow before placing any bets.

Surprise New Host for ‘Dancing With The Stars’
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Prime Time, Reality, ABC, Dancing With The Stars,
Tom Bergeron is going to be a busy man tonight. In addition to introducing a whole new round of competitors, he’ll be welcoming a new Dancing With The Stars co-host. Those who watched last season saw a very pregnant Samantha Harris do the backstage post-dance analysis. One has to wonder if she scheduled her delivery in time to watch the DWTS premiere today. Harris and her husband, Michael Hess, welcomed their own new addition yesterday morning. The baby girl, Josselyn Sydney Hess, is the couple’s first child.
As for who will be joining Tom on stage tonight—ABC will not say. They are doing their best to keep one casting selection a secret. (Please don’t let it be Lisa Rinna. I’m all Lisa Rinnaed-out right now). But for now, I will go ahead and predict Harris’ return next season—as a competitor. How else will she lose the baby weight?

The 59th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards Coverage

The 59th Annual Emmy Awards has not even started, yet I’m already sensing sensing a weird vibe about tonight’s telecast. Will the show be a celebration of those young and new (e.g. Heroes)? Will it be a tribute to those bowing out (James Gandolfini and crew)? Or will performer Kanye West somehow manage to cast a controversial shadow over the rest of the ceremony?
What a difference a year makes. Twelve months ago, we were still handing out trophies to stars from Will & Grace and The West Wing (those shows feel so five-years ago now). Today, we welcome a new crop of nominees including Ugly Betty and 30 Rock for Best Comedy. Last year, we were entertained by an always-hilarious Conan O’Brien. This year, we are threatened by a song and dance number from this year’s host, Ryan Seacrest. Last August, 24 snagged the award for Best Drama. This September, it’s not even nominated (yet somehow Boston Legal is).
I think it would be safe to assume the voters would predictably (and respectfully) shower The Sopranos with honors, but I’ll still be crossing my fingers for an upset sometime tonight. We’ll need something to talk about tomorrow…
Here’s the play-by-play of tonight’s events coming to you from the neglected West Coast!

Drew Lachey Nabs Hosting Job
Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Music, Prime Time, Reality, ABC, Dancing With The Stars,
Following in fellow Dancing with the Stars contestant (and former boyband member, come to think of it), Joey Fatone, Nick
Drew Lachey landed himself a purty little TV hosting gig as well. And not just any hosting job—a little spin-off from Dancing with the Stars, called Dance War. Hey, if the stars version of a dancing competition worked, why not one with non-celebs, brought to you by the people that made Dancing with the Stars (DwtS)? The show will appear midseason and fill the dance void left between cycles of DwtS, so your dance card will never be empty, so to speak. Lachey—who won the second season of Dancing—hosts, while judges Carrie Ann Inaba and Bruno Tonioli are on hand to get dance teams together and primed not just for a dance-off, but also a sing-off (if that’s a word?). You can expect this little dancing gem to come sometime in early 2008. Stay tuned…

‘Dancing With The Stars’ Lineup Announced
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Prime Time, Reality, ABC, Dancing With The Stars, Announcements,
The official lineup for ABC‘s Dancing With the Stars was announced this morning on Good Morning America. And despite the ‘leaked’ list you might have heard about this week, here is the correct list as presented by Apolo Ohno, Carrie Ann Inaba and host Tom Bergeron:
- Melanie Brown (a.k.a. ‘Scary Spice’) - Baby momma of Eddie Murphy’s latest child.
- Sabrina Bryan - ‘Cheetah’ girl (I don’t want to know what that means).
- Jennie Garth - 90210 alum #
12 (if you include Ian Ziering from last season) - Josie Maran - The supermodel of the female contestants. I’m already voting against her.
- Marie Osmond - She’s a little bit country.
- Jane Seymour - Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman
- Helio Castroneves - He’s going to drive his partner all over the dance floor.
- Mark Cuban - If he doesn’t win, he’ll probably just buy the network.
- Cameron Mathison - A soap star from All My Children. As if ABC needed more publicity.
- Wayne Newton - Mr. Las Vegas will have to learn how to share a stage.
- Floyd Mayweather, Jr. - Apparently the producers felt all boxers could dance.
- Albert Reed - I hear he’s a model as well. I approve of this one.

Wayne Newton Will Be ‘Dancing With The Stars’
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Prime Time, Reality, ABC, Dancing With The Stars, Announcements,
The official list will be released in just a few days, but Entertainment Weekly is already reporting a contestant’s name for next season’s Dancing With the Stars. Vegas crooner Wayne Newton will be stepping out on the dance floor to win the hearts of ladies old enough to know who he is. (For those of you who need some help, he sang that ‘Danke Schoen’ song featured in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off).
Look for Apolo Ohno and Judge Carrie Ann Inaba to announce the entire list on August 29’s Good Morning America.

Stars Eager to be the Next ‘Dancing’ Contestants
Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Prime Time, Reality, ABC, Dancing With The Stars,
Hot on the heels of the Dancing with the Stars finale, rumors are already flying about who will be hoofing it on the fifth season. Of course, there aren’t any super high-profile names being batted about, but if it takes a popular dance contest to get their name back in the spotlight, it’s worth it. First up is “Scary Spice”, Melanie Brown, whose claim to fame these days is discovering whether or not Eddie Murphy is the father of her baby. Will her former Spice Girls experience aid her in the quest for the shiny disco ball trophy? Tori Spelling would certainly like to give Brown a run for her money—she’s said to be in “discussions” with the show’s producers. Stay tuned, because there are likely to be more B-list celebs and athletes coming out of the woodwork to step out on the dance floor. The next season won’t begin until Fall 2007, so we have the whole summer to speculate who will make the cast.
