Tampa Bay Rays recall Brandon Guyer to replace Upton or Niemann

The ever-creative Tampa Bay Rays are preparing for the worst. Early on Friday they played right-handed starter Jeff Niemann on the disabled list, leaving a vacancy in the starting rotation, and to replace him, they’ve called up Brandon Guyer from Triple-A Durham. As an outfielder, Guyer won’t be making any starts on the mound. Instead, he’s there to provide insurance in case center fielder B.J. Upton winds up being suspended by the league for a tantrum he threw in Wednesday’s game against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Ryan Kesler leading Canucks to 3-1 series lead

The Vancouver Canucks played to a couple of firsts on Thursday night. Their 4-2 victory over the Nashville Predators was their first win by more than a goal since April 13th. It was their first game in the series in which they scored a goal in the first period. Captain Henrik Sedin scored his first goal of the playoffs (an empty net freebie). It was also their first game of the series in which it felt like the Canucks were actually building momentum towards something.

Tampa Bay Lightning complete sweep of Washington Capitals

What does a Tampa Bay Lightning sweep of the Washington Capitals mean? It means the 41-year-old Dwayne Roloson can still mind net. It means the Lightning are going to the Eastern Conference Final. But most importantly, it means that Bruce Boudreau’s coaching career in Washington may be over. His Capitals, who had a better record than any other team in the East, now have a lot of navel-gazing to do as they try to figure out what happened this time.

Vancouver Canucks need to find scoring touch

The Vancouver Canucks forced a relative scoring explosion in Tuesday’s game against the Nashville Predators. Yes, three goals in 70:45 counts as an explosion for a team who hasn’t scored as many goals in a single game since April 24, and have only scored as many as three in four out of 10 playoff games this year. They’ve only managed 21 goals in their 10 playoff games, and have been taken to overtime four times, winning two of them.

EndScore Report: In Your Face Roger McDowell and Atlanta Falcons

This week's "In Your Face" has DV and Chris putting on blast, former New York Mets star and current Atlanta Braves pitching coach, Roger McDowell. McDowell engaged in tomfoolery and straight-up stupidity at the ballpark and deserves the "in your face" treatment!
The other recipient has to go to the Atlanta Falcons for trading five picks (two first-rounders, one second, and two fourth-round picks) to the Cleveland Browns to move up 21 spots to select Julio Jones with the sixth overall pick, a wide-receiver to match up with Roddy White. I guess Jones is some sort of savior, which means that A.J. Green, the first wide receiver selected is a god then. Too many picks given up for one pick, no matter where it is. In your face, ATL... it's not a good week for you sports-wise. Thank goodness for the Atlanta Hawks! Listen to this week's "In Your Face"!

EndScore Report: NBA Playoffs First Round Review

In this edition of EndScore Report, DV and Chris look at what's been going on in the NBA Playoffs thus far. After the recording, the Memphis Grizzlies surprisingly eliminated the top-seeded San Antonio Spurs to complete the series during the first round. By the way, DV and Chris were wrong in their selection of the Spurs to win, but, so were many others. In any case, the Grizz will face the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Other teams moving on from the first round to the Conference Semi-finals include the Dallas Mavericks who will match up against the Los Angeles Lakers, the Chicago Bulls and the Atlanta Hawks go head-to-head, and probably the most intriguing pairing, the Boston Celtics against the Miami Heat. The boys look over their picks (clicky-click here) and will come back at you with their predictions for the second round of the NBA Playoffs in another episode coming soon!

In this edition of EndScore Report, DV and Chris speak on the madness that is the NFL lockout, which was lifted by a court decision on Monday, April 25th, which theoretically would have allowed players to report to their respective teams and begin workouts for next season. However some NFL teams did not comply to whatever degree and the NFL owners asked for a stay on the decision to keep the lockout going. When will this all end? How will this affect the currently copious amount of popularity surrounding the sport. How will the fans react? We also talk about the NFL Draft and the potential number one pick. GIVE IT A LISTEN!

Canucks beat Blackhawks and all is right with the world

It‘s a good day to be Roberto Luongo. The Vancouver Canucks goaltender played one of the best games of his career in Game 7 against the Chicago Blackhawks and ended up getting much more than just a win. Luongo was almost perfect, stopping 31 of 32 shots, but faltered only once during the game. Unfortunately, that came with just 1:56 left to play in regulation when Jonathan Toews finally solved him and sent the game into overtime.

Lightning and Penguins draw even after Game 6

As the season wound down, it became clear that, barring some extravagant scenario, The Pittsburgh Penguins would face the Tampa Bay Lightning in the first round of the NHL playoffs, and home ice advantage would be the only prize worth playing for. That honor went to Pittsburgh, who finished a mere three points ahead of the Lightning in the regular season. It turns out that those three points in the regular season meant a lot, as Tampa Bay has forced a winner-takes-all game at the Consol Energy Center on Wednesday night.

Chicago Blackhawks force improbable Game 7 versus Vancouver Canucks

Vancouver Canucks head coach Alain Vigneault attempted some subterfuge on Sunday, telling media that Roberto Luongo was still his number one goaltender going into Game 6 against the Chicago Blackhawks, despite two dismal games in a row, but then started backup goalie Cory Schneider instead. Schneider played admirably in the net, at one point even being the best penalty killer during a 5-on-3 that lasted 1:42, but was remarkably dismal when he tried to play the puck outside of his crease, which led to two Hawks goals.
