New Jersey Devils falling apart on and off the ice
Posted by Adrien Griffin Categories: Athletes, NHL,
It’s going to take a heck of a winning streak to turn the New Jersey Devils from this season’s biggest bust into a playoff contender – at best. After headlining a rather tame summer with the contract controversy of Ilya Kovalchuk, the Devils now find themselves competing with the New York Islanders for last place in the Eastern Conference. The two anti-giants faced off against each other on Friday afternoon and the Devils found it impossible to score on Rick DiPietro, losing 2-0.

Derek Jeter gets an offer that may not be enough
Posted by Adrien Griffin Categories: Athletes, MLB,
The Yankees have offered Derek Jeter what can only be described as a fair deal. Three years for $45 million may not be the best offer that the Yankee captain can get if he does the unthinkable and tests the free agent market, but it’s more than enough to keep him comfortable. Besides, after coming off a 10-year deal that paid him $189 million, it’s not like Jeter needs any more padding in his bank account.

The Calgary Flames need to trade Jarome Iginla
Posted by Adrien Griffin Categories: Athletes, NHL, Rumors,
Jarome Iginla’s time in Calgary has to be coming to an end. Rumors continue to pour in that the Flames are entertaining trade offers for Iginla, but the longer they wait before making a deal, the worse Iginla’s trade value becomes. For a team that appears to be going nowhere fast, the longer they wait to pull the trigger on a deal for Iginla, the lower the return they’re likely to get back in trade.

Jason Bartlett maybe moving out of Tampa Bay
Posted by Adrien Griffin Categories: Athletes, MLB, Rumors,
What is Jason Bartlett to do? After an awful 2010 season, the shortstop finds himself awaiting arbitration with Tampa Bay and will probably end up earning a little more than the $4 million he made last season, but he may not wear a Rays uniform while he collects his paychecks next season. More than a handful of teams have expressed interest in attaining Bartlett’s services, but it will depend on another shortstop’s decision that will determine actual trade partners with Tampa Bay.

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Smartphones, Features, Handhelds, Microsoft,
We're giving away an HTC HD7 Windows Phone 7 device to one of you guys here in our "Doing More with Less" giveaway! Not too familiar with WP7? Be sure to check out our Windows Phone 7 review, and read on for the details on how to enter.
Over the past three years, we've seen smartphones shrink in size while gaining a ton of functionality. In fact, it's hard to imagine ever using the bulky QWERTY sliders that were just about as thick as the original Game Boy. With the iPhone, Android devices, thinner BlackBerrys, and now WIndows Phone 7 devices jumping into the fray, we've truly got a situation where we are able to do way more than we'd ever dreamed we could do with a mobile phone, in a device that is so small that it comfortably fits in our pocket while the manufacturers tout how thin they are. Speaking of doing more with less, did you know that the smartphone in your pocket has more technology in it than the first rocket that went to outer space?
Now we want to hear from you--hit the comments and give us some examples where you can do more with less. It can be technology-related, or not. We will be picking a random winner based on the comments received. Here are the official rules:
- How to enter: Just leave a comment on this article, focusing on "Doing More with Less". You can leave one comment per day until the giveaway’s close. Each comment must be substantially different than the previous.
- Timeframe: The contest ends on November 29th, 2010. At this time comments will be closed on this post and a winner chosen with Random.org.
- Eligibility: The contest is open to US residents only who are at least 18 years old at the time of entry.
- Prize: The one winner will receive the HTC HD7, a T-Mobile Windows Phone 7 device that's an approximate retail value of $500.
This giveaway is brought to you by the new Windows Phone 7. Learn more about Windows Phone online and see it in person at local T-Mobile stores today.
Canadiens decision looking solid as Carey Price edges Jaroslav Halak
Posted by Adrien Griffin Categories: Athletes, NHL,
When Montreal dealt goaltender Jaroslav Halak to St. Louis last summer, many were quick to throw the Canadiens under the bus for cutting ties with Halak instead of Carey Price. How could they turn their backs on a goalie who was absolutely outstanding for over a month of playoff hockey? Still, the Canadiens did not believe that Halak was the better of the two. Plus, Price is younger, more controllable and shows more promise than Halak for the future.

King Felix Hernandez finally gets his win with AL Cy Young
Posted by Adrien Griffin Categories: Athletes, MLB,
It seems like the baseball writers may finally be coming around. They selected Felix Hernandez as the 2010 American League Cy Young Award winner, and for the second year in a row, they’ve opted to overlook win-loss record and give the top pitcher’s award to a pitcher who truly deserves it. With a 13-12 record, Hernandez looks like one of the most average pitchers in the game, but when you look deeper, you’ll find that his record is a gross misrepresentation of what he did.

Sean Avery’s antics a neverending story in the NHL
Posted by Adrien Griffin Categories: Athletes, NHL,
At this point it’s probably safe to assume that no force on earth can stop Sean Avery. Whether he’s bashing other players on the ice or ex-girlfriends in the media, this guy rubs everybody the wrong way. The latest infraction occurred on Sunday when Avery apparently sucker-punched Oilers defenseman Ladislav Smid after refusing to fight the Czech. While the video of the accusation is inconclusive, Avery’s history might lead you to believe that the Oilers have a valid argument.

Roy Halladay wins second Cy Young in unanimous decision
Posted by Adrien Griffin Categories: Athletes, MLB,
As predicted by many as soon as he first donned his Phillies uniform, Roy Halladay has won the National League Cy Young Award. Was there any doubt? Apparently not among voters. Halladay was a unanimous decision, picking up all 32 first-place votes for a total of 224 points. St. Louis’s Adam Wainwright finished in a distant second with 122 points while two-time defending NL Cy Young winner Tim Lincecum – whose Giants defeated Halladay’s Phillies in the postseason – was 11th in voting with two measly points.

Neftali Feliz wins AL Rookie of the Year award
Posted by Adrien Griffin Categories: Athletes, MLB,
Rangers closer Neftali Feliz picked up top rookie honors in the American League in what was pretty much a sure bet. Feliz recorded 40 saves for Texas, setting a rookie record in doing so. He recorded 20 first-place votes and scored 122 points overall. Austin Jackson of the Tigers finished second in voting with 98 points. Feliz’s shaky postseason numbers did not matter as voting occurred before the postseason. He is the first Ranger to win the award in 36 years.
