Jeff Fisher and Vince Young no longer togetherIt had become obvious that Tennessee Titans head coach Jeff Fisher and mercurial quarterback Vince Young could no longer co-exist. Titans owner Bud Adams also knew this to be true and had to make a choice between Fisher, who just finished his 16th season as Tennessee's man in charge on the field and the third overall pick in the NFL's 2006 Draft. Adams is publicly known to love Young, which makes this announcement kind of surprising. However, Fisher isnt in the clear yet as the coaching staff is being evaluated as well. It could be a totally new direction for the Titans going into next season.

Mark VisentinThere’s nothing quite like a Canada/U.S. hockey game. This year’s World Junior tournament pitted the two hockey superpowers’ babies against each other in a rematch of last year’s gold medal game, in which the Americans stole top honors in foreign Canada, breaking the hearts – and five year winning streak – of the Canadians. This year in Buffalo, the revenge was cold and strong, albeit one game too early as Canada knocked off the U.S. 4-1 in the semi-final game on Monday night.

Sidney CrosbySaturday night’s Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic was anything but that in every sense. The winter snow was replaced by a spring rain, an exclusive daytime affair was delayed to become one of seven concurrent games, and the Crosby-Ovechkin rivalry was nowhere to be found. Still, 68,111 marched in to Heinz Field and saw their hometown Penguins slosh their way to a 3-1 loss in a game where all hype and momentum leading up to it would have suggested a very opposite score.

Stanford beats UConnThe UConn Huskies women's basketball team win streak of 90 games ends thanks to a 71-59 loss to the Stanford Cardinal women's team. UConn, who recently beat the NCAA men's win streak that was achieved by the UCLA Bruins led by the legendary John Wooden, lost to the eighth-ranked team in the country, so there is no shame in the streak ending. The Huskies who were ranked number one could fall slightly in the rankings, but in the end, winning the NCAA tournament is what matters most. A streak of championships is more important and by the time the tournament comes, the Huskies will definitely go for a postseason win streak all the way to the title.

Heinz FieldIn less than 48 hours, the Pittsburgh Penguins and Washington Capitals will suit up and battle at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh in the 2011 NHL Winter Classic. The two teams have prepared by practicing outdoors, reminiscing about past Classics and, of course, building hype by participating in HBO’s controversial 24/7 series. What will all of this lead to? Yet another hockey game. Viewers with passing interest will see a neat sport appropriate for the winter season, but NHL-viewing regulars will see another attempt to build a fan base that’s just not interested.

Adrian BeltreCurrent reports say that the Angels are on top of the bunch looking to acquire Adrian Beltre, but at this point, it might make more sense to just sit back as spectators and wait patiently for Beltre to decide where he wants to go. We’ve already seen a bunch of surprises this offseason. Nobody thought Cliff Lee would go to Philadelphia. Nobody thought Zack Greinke would go to Milwaukee. Nobody thought Jayson Werth was worth $126 million.

Derek RoyThe Buffalo Sabres will miss Derek Roy. He’ll miss the next 4-6 months with a torn quad tendon that requires surgery. Roy suffered the injury in a 4-3 loss to Florida on Thursday when defenseman Dmitry Kulikov checked him into the boards. As Roy was taken off the ice, it seemed like Buffalo’s hopes and dreams went too. The team has struggled all season and Roy was an offensive highlight in an otherwise dim lineup.

Edwin EncarnacionThere seems to be no end to Alex Anthopoulos’ creativity. The Toronto Blue Jays GM made another “right move” yesterday when he signed Edwin Encarnacion to a one-year deal. It wasn’t the right move in that Encarnacion can turn the Blue Jays’ fortunes around or that he’s some diamond in the rough that nobody has noticed until now. This, however, may have been one of those right moves that not even Anthopoulos himself saw coming.

Yao MingYao Ming of the Houston Rockets is out once again. Thanks to a stress fracture in his left ankle, the NBA superstar will have his shine put out for the rest of the current 2010-11 NBA season. Yao Ming was already having his minutes limited thanks a broken left foot he was hoping to return from, but Yao's once brilliant career has been marred by consistent injuries in recent seasons.

CC SabathiaWhat does Cliff Lee signing with a National League team mean for the American League East? A lot, actually. The New York Yankees didn’t land this year’s greatest free agent, and that changes the whole landscape for the 2011 season. No longer are they the juggernaut that would win the East title year after year; now they spend twice as much money as anybody else to simply contend for wild cards, if they even get those.
