TiVo introduces 500 GB Premiere, slashes prices of on XL, Elite, and service packages

TiVo has just announced that its replacing the 320 GB TiVo Premiere with a newer 500 GB model, netting buyers an additional 65% more storage. The new units start shipping on March 25th. In addition, the company has also lowered prices on the rest of its hardware lineup, as well as on the service plans as well. Here's the new pricing for the Premiere, Premiere XL, and Premiere Elite:
- TiVo Premiere $149.99: Records two shows at once and up to 75 hours of HD content
- TiVo Premiere XL $249.99 (reduced $50): Records two shows at once and up to 150 hours of HD content
- TiVo Premiere Elite $399.99 (reduced $100): Records four shows at once and up to 300 hours of HD content
As for the service plans, here are the new, lower costs:
- The TiVo monthly service fee is now $14.99 per month, with a one-year commitment, making it lower on a monthly basis than most cable offerings
- Multi-service discount pricing is now $12.99 per month
The new 500 GB TiVo Premiere can be purchased in stores, or directly from TiVo.com.

TiVo Premiere Elite: 4 tuners, 2 terabytes, THX-certified for $499

TiVo is continuing their course of being one of the absolute slowest hardware companies out there between product cycles with the announcement of the TiVo Premiere Elite. What's makes the Elite different from the Premiere XL? Well, for starters, this thing has four tuners, so it can record up to four different programs at once. You can watch any of the four, or view a fifth already-recorded program, so that's pretty nice. It's also got a 2 TB hard drive in it, which can hold up to 300 hours of programming. Like the XL, it's THX-certified, which probably doesn't mean much to many people out there, but hey--it's a nice-to-have. The one thing about the Elite is that, despite the name, it actually can only record digital cable and FiOS programming. No over-the-air or analog access here.
No launch date has been set for the TiVo Premiere Elite, but we do know that when it launches, it'll cost $499. Service will be extra, and you can choose the $19.99 per month plan or the $499 lifetime plan.

TiVo iPad app now available

TiVo on Tuesday unveiled an iPad app that will allow TiVo Premiere owners to use their Apple tablet as a remote and TV guide.
The TiVo Premiere App for the iPad provides access to all the content available on the set-top box - from TV listings and your DVR queue to show information and social-networking link-ups.
The app will provide access to live TV and DVR recordings; to watch, just swipe and the show will start playing on the TV. When you're away, use the app to set up a TiVo recording.
The bottom menu includes several options, including Info, Guide, My Shows, Browse, and Manage. For more info about a show or celebrity, the TiVo app lets you explore biographical information without interuppting the show on the TV. To discuss what you're watching, the app provides a link to Twitter and Facebook.
There is also an advanced remote icon, which brings up a traditional remote interface. Slide your finger along the bottom of the screen to fast forward or rewind TV content.
To access, download the free app from the App Store and enter the key from your TiVo box. Users must have a TiVo Premiere or TiVo Premiere XL box and an active, paid TiVo subscription.

Unboxing Live 057: TiVo Premiere Series 4

TiVo recently launched their TiVo Premiere Series4 DVR with much hype, only to reveal a box that, at least for now, is crippled and underpowered. Sure, there’s a new Flash-based TiVo interface, but the box couldn’t be any more plain, and the dual core processor is currently being held back from its full potential, as TiVo tries to get both cores working with its new interface. In the meantime, only one core is enabled, and that makes from some painfully slow TiVo menu browsing. We got our hands on the TiVo Premiere, and wanted to give you a look at the packaging, and the device itself, as well as the included accessories in the box. At least here, we can see that TiVo did something right.
TiVo Premiere, Premiere XL arrive March 27 for $299, $499?

We’ve got another five days before TiVo makes their big announcement, but it appears that the TiVo Premiere leaks aren’t dying down between now and then. In fact, the Premiere DVR has shown up in Best Buy systems noting availability on March 27th for $299, with a Premiere XL version selling for $499 on the same date. From the looks of things, the Premiere will rock a 320GB hard drive, while the XL will have a full 1TB.
That’s all we have to go on for now, but this is certainly not enough to live up to the hype that TiVo is building around this announcement, what with their whole “Inventing the DVR was just a warmup” stance. We’ll see in a few days.

TiVo set to launch TiVo Premiere DVR?

It’s been quite a while since TiVo has given us a new model of DVR, but a shipping error pretty much confirms that the company is set to launch a new device called TiVo Premiere (alongside the TiVo Premiere XL.) Recent TiVo HD purchaser Patrick McCarron had a TiVo Premiere setup guide included in his order, and he decided to throw the whole thing up on Scribed for our perusal. The main details here are the the S-Video port is out, and there is only space for one multistream CableCARD now, as opposed to the two slots found on the TiVo Series3 and TiVo HD.
Not much more is known about the TiVo Premiere at the moment, but we are crossing our fingers for a storage bump and beefier internal components that can power a new TiVo high definition interface. CES is just about a week away—we’ll be sure to stop and chat with the TiVo folks.
