iPod touch gets FaceTime, Retina Display, starts at $229
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Apple, Cameras, Portable Audio / Video,
At this morning’s Apple event, Steve Jobs introduced the fourth generation iPod touch. As expected, the iPod touch has been updated to pretty much match what we’ve seen with the iPhone 4. That means it has a Retina Display, as well as dual cameras. A
camera on the back that takes images at 960x720, and a VGA camera on front—yup, that means that the new iPod touch is now FaceTime-compatible. The device is available in three sizes: 8GB for $229, 32GB for $299, and a 64GB model for $399. They’ll be available next week, but you can pre-order starting today.

Apple brings buttons back to iPod shuffle
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Apple, Music, Portable Audio / Video,
Apple has introduced a new iPod shuffle at their music event this morning. The new shuffle has 15 hours of battery life, and is pretty much a hybrid of the second and third generation devices. It’s small, it brings back the buttons that the third gen model lost, but keeps the voiceover features of the fourth gen model. It packs 2GB of storage space, is available in five colors, and sells for $49. You can pre-order one now, and they ship in a week.

How to watch the live stream of Apple’s music event today
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Apple, Smartphones, Handhelds, Home Entertainment, Internet, Rumors, Software,
In just a few minutes, Apple will be live-streaming one of their own events for the first time, and we wanted to make sure you had the details on how to tune in. All you need to do is head to the Apple website at 10:00AM PDT today, and it should come right up—provided you’ve got the right hardware. According to Apple:
Viewing requires either a Mac running Safari on Mac OS X version 10.6 Snow Leopard, an iPhone or iPod touch running iOS 3.0 or higher, or an iPad. The live broadcast will begin at 10:00 a.m. PDT on September 1, 2010 at www.apple.com.
The fall music event is expected to bring news of an updated iPod touch with Retina Display and dual cameras with FaceTime functionality, a super-small touchscreen iPod nano, and a new take on the Apple TV. We’re guessing that this whole live streaming this is because Apple wants to show off their streaming technology, since it will likely be a big part of their Apple TV and iTunes initiative this morning. We’re also hoping to hear about that white iPhone 4 and iOS 4 on the iPad.

There’s also the rumored Apple TV-to-iTV refresh, and you’ve just gotta believe that we will get word on the release of iOS 4 for the iPad…we are in need of folders on ours in a major way. We will have all the action for you as it unfolds next week.
White iPhone 4 shipping at end of July in limited quantities
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Apple, Smartphones, Handhelds,
During this morning’s Apple press conference, where the company announced they’d be giving free cases to iPhone 4 customers (as well as refunds for anyone who already purchased a Bumper Case,) we also got an update as to the whereabout of the white iPhone 4. Originally, Apple said it would ship in the second half of this month. Today, Steve Jobs said it would arrive at the end of this month in limited quantities. Still no solid date, but we are guessing we’ll see it in about two weeks.
Apple to give every iPhone 4 owner a free Bumper Case
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Accessories, Apple, Smartphones, Corporate News,
This morning Apple took the stage for a press conference to address the iPhone 4 antenna issues that a small number of users have been experiencing. After Steve Jobs gave details on the antenna issue alongside data that Apple has collected, he announced that Apple would be sending free cases to iPhone 4 customers through September 30th. One caveat mentioned, though, is that Apple can’t seem to make enough Bumper Cases to meet demand, so to be true to their free case promise, they will source cases from their partner manufacturers as well. Starting late next week you’ll be able to sign up for your free case on the Apple website, and you can choose which case you’d like to receive. If you’ve already bought a bumper case, Apple will refund your money through September 30th as well.
Furthermore, for anyone who is dissatisfied with the iPhone 4 as a whole, Apple will allow you to return it with no restocking fee within 30 days, as long as it’s undamaged.
So there you have it!
Fortune names their 50 smartest people in tech
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Apple, Internet, Microsoft, Misc. Tech,
Fortune has gone all tech on us this week, compiling a list of who they think are the fifty smartest people in tech. We found it interesting because most lists focus on the richest CEOs, or straight up performance on the job rather than things like intelligence, and the vision and impact they have on the tech world. The way they did it was to break the list down into ten categories (smartest CEO, smartest founder, etc.) and then list five names in each, listing a top choice for each category in the process. Here’s a peek at what they came up with:
- Smartest CEO: Steve Jobs, CEO, Apple
- Smartest Founder: Mark Zuckerberg, CEO, Facebook
- Smartest Designer: Jonathan Ive, Senior VP of Industrial Design, Apple
- Smartest Academic: Danah Boyd, Social Media Researcher, Microsoft Research
Hi the read link below to head to Fortune for the full list.

Apple sells over 1.7 million iPhone 4 units in 3 days
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Apple, Smartphones, Corporate News, Handhelds,
We knew that over 600,000 iPhone 4 pre-orders came through before the device even hit the streets, but with the epically massive lines seen during the iPhone 4 launch, we had to wonder if Apple had topped one million sold. Well, this morning we got news that Apple blew way past one million—the company sold over 1,700,000 iPhone 4s in just the first three days of availability.
“This is the most successful product launch in Appleās history,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “Even so, we apologize to those customers who were turned away because we did not have enough supply.”
The 1.7 million number is based on sales in the US, UK, Germany, France, and Japan. iPhone 4 will go on sale in 18 additional counties by the end of July.
iBooks Enhancements: Native PDF support, notes, bookmarks
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Apple, Software,
During his WWDC 2010 keynote, Steve Jobs announced some upcoming enhancements to the iBooks app. The biggest, by our estimation, is the addition of native PDF support. You’ll be able to drag PDFs into iTunes to have them sync up with iBooks. In order to keep things nice and tidy, PDFs will even have their own bookshelf. Other enhancements include one-touch bookmarking of a page, as well as the ability to add notes. The notes appear as post-it notes on a page. These are in addition to the currently available highlighting. Very nice.
