Best Buy in-store events offering first-hand look at 4K Ultra HD

Samsung curved 4k uhd tv

Television manufacturers like Samsung, LG, Sony, and Vizio are betting big on 2015 being a breakout year for Ultra HD 4K televisions. If you’re unfamiliar, 4K TVs deliver video content at 2160p. That’s 3840×2160 pixels, which means it’s hitting you with 4x the resolution of the 1080p (1920x1080 pixels) set you’re likely already used to. Streaming services like Netflix, Amazon Instant Video, and YouTube are already pumping out 4K content, with more to come. It all may sound great, but it’s really something you need to see for yourself to believe—luckily, Best Buy is ready to give you that up-close and personal look.

iPhone 5 in-cell

This morning The Wall Street Journal published a story focusing on the screen of the upcoming next-generation iPhone. According to sources, Apple will be switching to "in-cell technology," using panels from LG, Display Inc., and Sharp. The advantage of in-cell displays over the current capacitive touchscreens is that it removes the top touch layer that you find on the device, making them thinner and lighter. This can result in a display that is half a millimeter thinner. Apple is notoriously picky about the thinness of its products, and anything that can help shave off a bit of width is likely something the company would at least consider.

iPad 3 display

We're entering that special time of year. No, not the season when people begin to wrap presents and trim their trees, but those months leading up to the period when it's assumed that Apple will launch its next-gen tablet that iPad rumors abound.

The latest report comes from Digitimes, which has claimed makers of iPad displays including Samsung, LG, and Sharp shipped one million high-res panels for the iPad 3 in October. It also said these suppliers will increase shipments to two million units in November.

Apple will begin assembling the third iPad in January of 2012, Digitimes also said.

It alleged that Apple is developing a new 7.85-inch panel, and suppliers AU Optronics (AUO) and LG have already sent samples to Apple. However, Digitimes said it couldn't determine whether or not Apple would add an iPad of this size to its line next year.
