Wal-Mart, Radio Shack, Best Buy to sell iPhone 4 on June 24

iPhone 4 Wal-Mart

Looks like is looking to thin some of those long iPhone lines that have become a yearly summer tradition. It has just been announced that Wal-Mart will be selling the on June 24th, which is the day the phone goes on sale. In the past, Wal-Mart would sell iPhones well after the launch date, so this is a first for them. It’s smart, as there are way more Wal-Mart stores in the country than Apple stores.

In addition, Radio Shack has been telling customers that they would also be selling the new iPhone on launch day as well, bringing that store back into relevancy for the first time since 1992. Lastly, Best Buy has yet to officially announce launch day plans, but they did sell both the iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS at launch, so this should be no different.

Of course, you’ll also be able to buy the iPhone 4 directly at an Apple Store as well as any AT&T store as well. That’s a lot of options, and that’s not even taking into account that you’ll be able to pre-order the iPhone 4 starting on June 15th so that it is shipped directly to you, thus avoiding lines altogether.

Official Alert: Radio Shack changes name to The Shack

Posted by Mark Rollins Categories: Corporate News, Rumors,

Radio Shack

There has been many a rumor floating around the old intertubes that Radio Shack, long time electronics goods retail shop, would be changing its name to “The Shack” - not to be confused with Pizza Hut’s rebranding to “The Hut.” Well, as we thought, the rumors were certainly true. This attempt to be hip is going to be kicked off by The Shack Summer Netogether, an event running August 6th through the 8th, featuring two 17-foot laptops placed in New York’s Times Square and San Francisco’s Justin Herman Plaza. I don’t know if this new marketing strategy will work, but if it keeps The Shack from becoming like Circuit City, then it is worth a try.

TiVo Inc. Sees Sharp Increase In Revenue

tivologoTivo Inc. announces a 30% increase in service and technology revenues for its quarter that ended July 31. CEO Tom Rogers claims that this increase was partially due to distribution of TiVo through Radio Shack and the recent signing of a deployment agreement with Cox Cable. Revenues are reported at $52.9 million, compared to $40.7 million for the same period last year.

“We remain highly focused on our key points of differentiation between TiVo and generic DVRs. Those points of differentiation are becoming hugely significant and form the basis of being able to market TiVo’s many benefits as a world apart from simply having a hard drive in a cable or satellite box,” said Rogers.

With 30,000 new TiVo subscriptions, the recently launched KidZone, its new Series 3 unit, and sugar plum thoughts of the Christmas season to come, it’s easy to assume that the only direction TiVo will be traveling is up.
