One of the main new features of OS X Mountain Lion is Power Nap. Power Nap allows your SSD Mac to keep itself updated and synced to the cloud, even while it sleeps. While its a highly-touted feature of Mountain Lion, support for the 2011 and 2012 MacBook Air and the new MacBook Pro with Retina display was left out. Today, Apple released a download that enables Power Nap for the aforementioned MacBook Air units, with the promise that an additional download that'll enable the feature on the MacBook Pro with Retina display is "coming soon." You can get Mountain Lion now for $19.99 on the Mac App Store.

Safari Reading List to pick up offline mode in Mountain Lion

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Apple, Internet, Software,
While troubleshooting a home network issue today, I stumbled upon a new feature that Apple is introducing in OS X Mountain Lion. Many have referred to the Safari Reading List feature that debuted in Lion and iOS 5 as a glorified list of bookmarks. That's kind of true, although Reading List can also let you know which items you've read and which you haven't, and also gives you a text preview of each item as well. However in Mountain Lion you are able to read your Reading List items even when you're offline.
When you aren't connected to a network and pull up Safari, you get a message that tells you that you aren't connected to the Internet, but that your "Reading List articles are available for viewing while you are offline." Definitely a nice bonus when you wanna read some stuff but have no way of browsing the web.

This morning Apple announced OS X Mountain Lion (10.8,) the next version of its flagship desktop operating system. OS X 10.8 will ship later this summer, and will be available through the Mac App Store. As with OS X 10.7 Lion, Mountain Lion is geared towards bringing more iOS goodness to the desktop, and further blurs the lines between Apple's mobile devices and computers. New features that will be coming to the Mac with Mountain Lion include a new Messages app that will replace iChat and bring iMessage and FaceTime into one app, Notification Center, tighter iCloud integration, AirPlay mirroring from the Mac to an Apple TV, the Reminders app, Notes app, Game Center leaderboards, Twitter built-in to the OS, Share Sheets to make sharing of any content easier, and Gatekeeper, a new security feature that allows you to set preferences for what can and can't be downloaded. We will go more in-depth on each in a separate feature later today.
With the announcement of Mountain Lion, Apple also made it known that it will stick to a new yearly release cycle for its desktop OS.
