Mass Effect 3 sells 890,000 copies on day one

mass effect 3

As any in-the-know gamer should be aware of, Mass Effect 3 was released last Tuesday, and, man, is it flying off the store shelves. Opening day sales for the game hit 890,000 units, which is most definitely a lot of cheddar. 1.5 million units of the title have been shipped to retailers worldwide, however take note that the number of units shipped does not correlate with the number of units sold.

Mass Effect 3 getting Kinect voice command treatment

Microsoft’s Kinect for Xbox 360, it seems, keeps getting bigger and better as developers have more time to play with it. Some believe that the Kinect’s abilities can go far beyond that which was defined by its initial title releases. Bioware, the makers of the Mass Effect series, is no exception to this belief. Adding Kinect voice capabilities, Bioware promises Mass Effect 3 will be their most immersive game yet.

On the whole, this seems like a really good move for the franchise. The ability to interact with other characters, not only in conversation, but combat as well will leave many with a better impression that what they say and do in real life matters a whole lot more in game. With the Mass Effect trilogy coming to an end, Bioware is pulling out all the stops to make sure the fans have the best experience in the final chapter.

mass effect 3 delay

Gamers hoping to find Mass Effect 3 under the Christmas tree this year are out of luck. The latest installment of BioWare's popular mature-themed sci-fi franchise has been delayed until the first quarter of 2012, the company said Wednesday.

"Mass Effect 3 will be released in the first three months of 2012. The development team is laser-focused on making sure Mass Effect 3 is the biggest, boldest and best game in the series, ensuring that it exceeds everyone's expectations," BioWare executive producer Casey Hudson posted on Facebook.

The follow-up to Mass Effect 2 was originally slated for release in time for the 2011 holiday season, according to various gaming websites, though some have already updated that information to reflect the delayed release of the RPG third-person shooter.

BioWare hires an All-Star cast for Mass Effect 2

Mass Effect 2Casting is a very important part of film production, used to attract movie goers into theaters.  Similarly, BioWare is hoping to achieve this same kind of effect by casting big names into their upcoming title, Mass Effect 2. Sure, they are also hired to bless the game’s characters with talent, grace and—in some cases—even mannerisms. Names such as comedic actor Seth Green, Chuck stars Yvonne Strahovski and Adam Baldwin, Star Trek’s Michel Dom, Battlestar Galactica’s Tricia Helfer, Carrie-Anne Mos, and even Martin Sheen are part of this all-star game cast.  If the Mass Effect series never tickled your fancy, these names will surely spike your interest, even if it’s just curiosity.

Mass Effect iPhone

Ok, so maybe the Internet doesn’t always lie. Bioware has finally opened up and decided to clear up rumors that came about from an online survey regarding one of their games. Community coordinator Chris Priestly has confirmed that Mass Effect: Jacob’s Story is in fact, a title in development for the and .

The game will revolve around a side-story which focuses on one of the new characters for the upcoming title Mass Effect 2—and not a ‘bridging’ or prequel game as some had speculation. More information for the game will be revealed later this month and my guess is that we will get to see some of this in action at .

Watch the First Five Minutes of Mass Effect

Forgive yourself if you mistake the opening of Bioware‘s upcoming Xbox 360 RPG for an early peek at Ridley Scott’s interstellar follow-up to Blade Runner.  From the woozy synth-phonic score, to the pre-credit crawl that leads into the main title reveal, to the camera movements that just feel so right, Mass Effect oozes pure cinematic goodness.  Those of you who don’t want to know anything about the game before playing it should stay away from the above video.  For everyone else, however, this is a must-see, if for no other reason than it provides us with our first glance at a created character who doesn’t look like the bald space marine Bioware has used to promote the game so far.

Mass Effect is sure to be one of this year’s biggest games when it hits the Xbox 360 on November 20th.
