MMS feature released for iPhone 3G and 3GS

Hey, don’t look now, but all of you who didn’t opt to enable iPhone MMS yourselves, the time has come for you to let iTunes do it for you. A carrier update file is now available that, once installed, will enable MMS officially for AT&T iPhone users throughout the US. All you need to do is connect your iPhone 3G or iPhone 3GS to your computer, and tell iTunes to check for an update. Install the file, and let the pictures of kittens start flying.
Oh, and yes, if you are an iPhone OG owner, you are left out in the cold on this one.

AT&T: iPhone MMS launching Friday afternoon

Just a quick note to those of you who haven’t already enabled MMS on your iPhone yourself already, the official rollout happens this Friday afternoon, according to AT&T’s Facebook page:
MMS Update: We know you’ve been eager for this service so we wanted to offer a quick update on the launch plans for MMS on Friday, Sept. 25. Late morning, Pacific Time, on Friday, the new carrier settings update enabling MMS should be live and ready to download through iTunes. We’ll provide the steps and all of the details you need right here at that time.
So there you have it - we fully expect that Friday to be full of cute kitten pictures, and video files of people mooning their iPhone cameras. Good times.

Okay, we were all disappointed by AT&T’s decision to delay iPhone MMS to early fall, but that doesn’t stop ambitious folks such as ourselves from finding a way around it. And we have. iPhone MMS officially launches September 25, misses “late summer” target

It’s official, MMS is coming to the iPhone 3G and 3GS on September 25th, according to AT&T. For those keeping track, that pushes the promise of “late summer” back to “early fall” since technically, summer ends on September 22nd. On the surface, it seems like not such a big deal, but it is just another straw that is being added to the camel’s back as it pertains to AT&T. Many suspected that MMS would go live on September 9th, alongside the Apple iPod event scheduled for that day. Hey, better late than never, right?

12seconds.TV annouces 12cast Twitter video app for 3GS users

Today, the fine folks at 12 seconds have announced the release of a new app for iPhone 3GS users—12cast. 12cast is their first native video app for the iPhone, allowing users to log into Twitter, record, title their posts and share them with friends. The goal with this app was to create an easy and seamless video sharing tool for Twitter. In hopes to get the word out, 12cast has created a contest so easy to enter, well, a caveman could do it. Simply send out a Twitter or 12seconds post with the hashtag #12cast, and you will be instantly entered to win iPhone data service for a year. For every 12seconds post you make with the hashtag #12cast, you will be entered 3 times. The contest ends Friday, August 7th—so get out there and start posting! 12cast is now available free at the iTunes app store.

Apple releases iPhone OS 3.1 beta 3 build 7C116a

Hey iPhone developers, Apple has just released iPhone OS 3.1 beta 3 build 7C116a, and it’s available now in the iPhone Developer Portal now. The download is 307MB. iPhone SDK 3.1 beta 3 build 9M2808 is also available immediately, with different versions for Leopard and Snow Leopard. Get to downloaded, and let us know what you find!

If you run iMovie ‘09, it’s time for you to fire up Software Update to grab the latest iMovie 8.0.4 update. According to Apple, this update aims to fix a screen orientation bug as it pertains to iPhone 3GS video, as well as squashing a couple of other bugs. New York Nearest Subway augmented reality iPhone 3GS app

For all of you who thought that the compass inside the iPhone 3GS was just a waste, think again. We’ve seen some apps that will be making use of the compass in ways you never thought possible, and one such app is New York Nearest Subway. Developed by acrossair, New York Nearest Subway is best explained as an augmented reality app that overlays information on top of a real-world view. You pull up the app, and the camera view is shown, with information telling you about which direction to walk to get to the nearest train station. It is truly genius. One of the new iPhone 3.0 features that Apple happily touted when they introduced the new OS is HTTP Streaming Media. Now, the common man may not exactly know much about HTTP Streaming, so let’s break it down for a moment. HTTP Live Streaming allows a server to server multiple versions of the same media file, and serve the one that will perform best for you depending on the amount of bandwidth you have available. If you move to an area with a higher or lower amount of bandwidth while you are viewing a piece of content, the video will be dynamically improved or degraded so that you get the best experience. Very cool, right?
