Pirq 1.5: Refreshed UI, more new features coming soon
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Lifestyle, App Updates, Reviews, Free Apps,
We were able to get a look at the new Pirq app update, which is focused on bringing beauty to the free restaurant discount app. In addition to making the app look a bit more slick, Pirq also worked on bringing restaurant information directly into the app itself in a Yelp-like fashion, and finally, the company wanted to make it even easier to go through the process of finding a restaurant to eat at, to redeeming the free deal (no pre-printed coupons or pre-payments are needed, unlike apps like Groupon or LivingSocial.)
The tour of the app begins with the magazine philosophy. In order to get users to tap on a restaurant deal, a magazine approach is used. Big, polished, glossy images of delicious food, all from the restaurants. The app even pulls in featured menu items that are popular at the different restaurants. Read on for all the details.

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Apple, Smartphones, Design, Handhelds, Rumors, Videos,
Video footage of the purported next-generation iPhone has surfaced today, courtesy of ETrade Supply, a reseller of parts. The video appears to confirm the new iPhone images we posted a couple of weeks ago, showing the two-tone rear metal casing of the next Apple smartphone, as well as a taller profile with larger display. Other changes that seem to be confirmed include the move of the headphone jack from the top of the device to the bottom, larger speakers, and a much smaller dock port. We also see that the SIM card tray in the new model is a bit smaller that the ones Apple has used in the past.

Meet the new Google Maps: 3D, offline maps, more StreetView
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Smartphones, Corporate News, Google, Software, Videos,
Google has announced a few nice updates to Google Maps that will be rolling out soon. For starters, expect offline maps to come to mobile Android and iOS devices. You'll be able to look up a map area in advance and select it to be made available offline. Maps will then indicate how much space it will take up on your device, and will download the content with your approval.
The second major feature is greatly-improved 3D maps. Thanks to planes shooting images at a 45 degree angle and from directly above, Google used stereophotogrammetry to combine the images to create 3D scenes. Google was able to demo this on an internal version of Google Earth for iPad, showing off the city of San Francisco in 3D.

During the Microsoft E3 Media Briefing this morning, the company gave all the details of the ambitious Xbox SmartGlass feature. SmartGlass is an app that will be available on Windows 8, smartphones, and tablets that will allow the user to view and use content that is tied to the game or video you're currently enjoying. While watching the show on HBO Go on the Xbox 360, you can use the SmartGlass app to view an interactive map that shows where the action in each scene is taking place, offering content and more informational metadata about the show.
