iPhone 3GS users are set to be on the receiving end of a little more love with the release of iOS 6 later this fall. How so? Well, the latest iOS 6 beta 3 that was released yesterday includes both Shared Photo Streams and the new VIP Email feature. That means that 3GS owners will get pretty much all of the new major iOS 6 features, with the exception of FaceTime over Cellular (no front camera,) Offline Reading Lists, 3D Maps, and Siri, which is relegated only to the iPhone 4S and new third-generation iPad. Not too shabby for a smartphone that was released three years ago.

iOS 6 beta 3 OTA update failing for some users
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Apple, Smartphones, Handhelds, Software,
As we reported earlier, Apple has released iOS 6 beta 3 to developers. However, as with any beta, there are still some bugs to be ironed out. Reports are coming in that the over-the-air update is failing for some users, with an error message that states "Software Update Failed: An error occurred downloading iOS 6 beta 3.". To initiate an OTA update, you go into the Updates section of the settings app, and tap on Download and Install. The failure occurs almost immediately after doing this. Mutiple hard reboots don't seem to fix the issue. It seems that users that are caught in the OTA fail loop will need to wait until the iOS 6 beta 3 10a5355d images become available on the Apple dev portal, using iTunes to manually update their devices.

Apple to kill Ping social network in next major iTunes update
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Apple, Corporate News, Internet, Music, Rumors,
Apple's Ping, the music-based social network that has struggled to find any sort of dedicated fanbase, is set to be killed off with the next iTunes update and the public release of iOS 6, according to The Wall Street Journal. According to the publication:
Ping, which still exists today in iTunes 10.6.3 and the iOS 6 beta - where it doesn't work, will be gone with the software's next major release, likely scheduled for this fall. And at that point Apple's social networking offerings will shift to Twitter and new partner Facebook entirely.
We don't know too many people who'll miss it. Ping has been a far too barren wasteland for far too long. If its something you enjoy, though, then start saying your goodbyes.
