T-Mobile Dash Reviewed

Looks like my boy John over at CrunchGear got his hands on one of the new T-Mobile Dash phones, and is reporting back with his impressions of the unit. The Dash is the new Moto Q-esque phone by HTC, which runs Windows Mobile 5.0 and has a full QWERTY keyboard. While John’s lack of love for Windows Mobile 5.0 may seem unfair at first, we can totally sympathize. That said, CrunchGear seems to think the phone is an all around good experience, WinMo 5.0 notwithstanding. If you are looking for a consumer-level phone ($199 with 2-year contract) that does more than just play fancy ringtones, this one might be worth a look if you are on T-Mobile (or looking to switch.)

Verizon To Bring White LG Chocolate For Holidays

We have seen that an awful lot of you have checked out our LG Chocolate VX8500 review that we published a few weeks ago, so we figure that there are quite a few Chocolate fans out there. Well, for those who waited on the purchase (or for the big spenders,) you might be pleased to know that Verizon is planning a white LG Chocolate phone which should launch sometimes next month. We don’t expect any of the features to be bumped (although, the speakerphone should come already enabled) - but being that this will likely be a special edition, the price may see an increase

Sony Ericsson Releases 7550a Quad-Band

Sony Ericsson 7550a Sony Ericcson today announced the release of its Z550a quand-band clamshell phone, which has been designed just for the Americas. It features a 262k TFT display (220 x 176 pixels), a 1.3 Megapixel camera with 4x digital zoom, a music and video media player, M2 (Memory Stick Micro) support, and 25MB of memory. You can send SMS/MMS/EMS or e-mail by POP or IMAP4. The Z550a also features full HTML browsing, an FM tuner, and Bluetooth capability. No news yet on price and availability, but check out Sony Ericsson to see if you should add it to your list for Santa this year.

Arnie Bans Handheld Cellphones

arnold Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has announced that he will sign into law legislation that bans the use of handheld cellphones while driving. Although 38 state legislatures have considered similar bills, only New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Washington D.C. have actually passed them. Under the new law, which takes effect in 2008, a minimum of a $20.00 fine will be given when using a cell without a headset, speaker phone, or other wireless device.

“Public safety is the governor’s No. 1 priority,” said Schwarzenegger spokeswoman Margita Thompson, “and this bill will make the streets and highways of California safer by ensuring that drivers have both hands available for driving.”

Senator Joe Simitan (D-Palo Alto) has taken five years to bring his idea to fruition. The California Highway Patrol indicates that last year alone there were 775 accidents involving drivers who were using hand-held cellphones. Statistics show that the risk of death is 9 times greater for those drivers. Our only question is if public safety is Arnie’s #1 priority, why are they waiting until 2008?

With this new product you can recharge your phone’s battery almost instantaneously (except for some PDA and smart-phones,) even if your phone is completely powerless. The ETG comes with an adapter and a pair of Energizer e2 Lithium batteries. At an MSRP of $19.99, it’s available at your favorite department, grocery, or drug store.

Energizer claims that it is compatible with 80% of cell phones now on the market, including Nokia, Samsung, Sprint, and Motorola, as well as mini USB devices developed after 2003 such as BlackBerry, SLVR, and RAZR. Now, if that bunny could just learn to catch a cell phone before it hits the ground.

Google and eBay to Connect Users, Merchants, and Advertisers Globally

ebay google Google Inc. and eBay Inc. announced today that they have reached an agreement to benefit users, merchants, and advertisers over our entire planet. Google will begin to place ads on eBay and will become the exclusive provider of text ads outside of the US.
They will also launch “click-to-call” advertising, a feature that makes it easier for businesses to connect with customers. As of today, “click-to-call” works this way: you provide your phone number, Google calls you, and connects you with the company. In the near future, Google and eBay will use their VoIP clients (Google Talk and Skype) for click-to-call. They will begin to test the two components at the beginning of next year for several months.

Meg Whitman, eBay Inc. President and CEO, claims, “By combining the power of eBay in e-commerce and Skype in communications with Google’s leadership in search and advertising, we can increase the usefulness of the Internet for shoppers, merchants and advertisers around the world.” Okay, but couldn’t you just become “Googlebay” and spend a smidge of the profits on feeding the planet?
