JVC’s Clap On, Clap Off Television

JVC Hand Clap TV

JVC’s latest entry into the world of electronics is their “hand clap & gesture recognition” TV. Unveiled at the CEATEC 2007, you clap 3 times into its mic for a menu. A cam sitting atop the screen tracks your hand, thereby turning it into a tuner. Hook your finger and you click a button. There are also different clapping patterns for such features as volume control. There is no target date set for this prototype’s commercialization. While this is a definite advantage if you are one of those who had a “clap-on” signal for your remote control when it got lost, we are curious as to its response to a televised concert when the applause rolls around.

Lockheed to Develop NAVs

NAVLockheed is pleased to announce that the Pentagon is using our tax dollars to fund the development of a small rocket-thrusted spy cam based on the design of a maple seed. The mini-copter houses communication, navigation, telemetry devices, along with its own imaging sensors and power source.

The NAV (Nano Air Vehicle) could be used for biological or chemical detection, evidence of humans via body heat and breathing, or maybe even seeking out elusive WMDs. We suspect that the term “released in swarms” refers to dispersing them by air, although they might consider the fact that many of these NAVs will look somewhat foolish because we don’t think there are a lot of Silver Maples trees in deserts.

Unboxing Flip Video

It’s no top of the line model, but we still dig our new Flipvideo. Going through video withdrawal, we purchased one on a whim and set out to test our new toy. It is so simple to operate that we are eternally grateful to puredigital. The MSRP for the cam is $149.99, but we managed to purchase one on Amazon for $130.00 with free shipping. We figure we had better invest the savings into rechargeable batteries as this puppy only comes with 2 standard AA’s. Details to follow.

Check Into Your Dog’s Business

Tomy Wonder Shot

We read not too long ago about a couple that left their video camera on while they were at work to see what their dog did when they were away. It turns out that the canine took out all of his toys from a box when they left and returned them when he heard the car pull up. So how sneaky is this Wonderful Shot by Tomy? The 3.5 megapixel cam holds 8 MB of memory (about 90 photos,) and has a remote, variable timer, and rechargeable battery via USB. It comes comes with a collar clip and we were thinking that for $79.00, one could turn it a decent baby cam.

Facebook Profile Merely Advertising

WendyThis, and many images like it, were recently posted on Facebook. Readers were told that the lady in question had lost her digital camera and had left it and photos behind as clues as to her identity. Apparently the page attracted thousands of admirers, who posted comments like this one from Martin Farrell, from London, “I thought I saw her today in Chiswick but it was a false alarm, the hunt continues.”

It was finally admitted that it was simply a viral marketing campaign for a porn site and that the lady in question is Wendy, one of its models. It just goes to show that in advertising, sex continues to sell.
