Apple just changed how the iPhone Pro thinks. On the surface, the iPhone 18 Pro might look like a standard, iterative update. But underneath the familiar exterior lies a completely rebuilt architecture. We are talking about a new chip, a massive cooling upgrade, and a camera system that finally does something no other iPhone has ever done. Let's dig into what makes this device a quiet powerhouse.
A familiar design with a few smart tweaks
The body uses a high-heat force aluminum unibody, keeping it lightweight but incredibly tough. Apple introduced four colors this year: Black, Silver, Glacier, and Burgundy. The Burgundy finish is deep, sophisticated, and catches the light beautifully without screaming for attention.
Durability is highly impressive. Both the front and back feature Ceramic Shield 2. You can comfortably run this display without a screen protector and not see a single scratch after heavy daily use.
Up top, the Dynamic Island is about 25% smaller but now shows up to three live activities at once. Apple achieved this by hiding the FaceID IR camera directly behind the display pixels, giving you more screen real estate without losing functionality.

The M5 Ultra Mac Studio is the fastest computer Apple has ever sold, and after a couple of weeks with one on my desk, I can tell you immediately that it's shockingly good.
Apple sent me a near-top configuration: 36-core CPU, 80-core GPU, 256GB of unified memory, and an 8TB SSD. That's more computer than I've ever had in a box this size, and the numbers land about where Apple said they would back in August: 30% to 45% more CPU than the M3 Ultra depending on the benchmark, anywhere from 20% to 60% on the GPU depending on the test, and storage that runs two to three times as fast. The bigger change is who this machine is for. It used to be the video editor's Mac. Now it's the Mac for anyone who wants to run a 150GB language model on their desk without paying anyone a monthly fee, and Apple has priced it for exactly that person.

Bloomberg: Apple Postponed Its Camera Pendant, and Is Prototyping a Screenless Fitness Band

An always-on camera hanging from your neck is a lot to ask of a person. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reports that Apple has landed in roughly the same place, at least for now. Gurman says the company has postponed its AI pendant, the small camera-and-microphone wearable that was meant to feed Siri a live look at whatever is in front of you.
Gurman has described it as something you could hang around your neck, clip to your clothes, or wear on your body, with the camera doing the job your phone camera does now when you point it at a menu and ask what to order. Prototype descriptions in the reporting put it near the size of an AirTag, a thin disc of aluminum and glass with a button on the side. Apple has never announced it, never named it, and has said nothing about any of this.

The iPad mini has the smallest and most stubborn fan base Apple has. It is the tablet people read on in bed, wedge into a jacket pocket, and keep for five or six years because nothing else is quite that size. It also goes the longest between updates, which means every mini rumor gets picked over harder than it deserves.
This round is the biggest in years. Reporting from Bloomberg, plus a scatter of supply chain leaks, points to a new iPad mini as early as October with an OLED screen, a much faster chip, and a sealed body that survives a splash. Apple has announced nothing, and these claims are nowhere near equally solid, so here they are sorted by how much weight the sourcing carries.

Apple Intelligence Now Wants 14GB Free, and 256GB iPhone Owners Pay for It

Before you update to iOS 27 and switch on the new Siri, check your free space. Apple now asks for up to 14GB of it on its newest high-end iPhones. The old number was 8GB.
Per Apple's support document, the 14GB tier covers iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max and iPhone Air. Every other Apple Intelligence phone, from the iPhone 15 Pro up through the standard iPhone 17, still needs up to 8GB, and Apple Watch needs up to 1.5GB. iPhone Air starts at 256GB and so does iPhone 18 Pro, so the bigger bill lands on the people who already paid the most.

Apple’s Hardware Boss on the iPhone Duo Crease: ‘Hold Us Accountable to That, Please’

"Hold us accountable to that, please." That is Tom Marieb, Apple's VP of hardware engineering, talking to TechRadar about the crease down the middle of the iPhone Duo. Every folding phone shipped so far has grown one, and Apple has now invited everybody to come back and check on his.
The Duo is Apple's first foldable, it starts at $1,999, and it goes on sale October 23. Nobody outside Apple has folded one a few thousand times yet. Marieb's claim is that when you finally do, you will have a hard time seeing the line, and he would like to be judged on it.
Safari 27 Lets an AI Agent Drive Your Browser. Apple Built the Hook Itself.

Apple doesn't usually hand out keys to Safari. So it's strange to open the Safari 27 release notes and find instructions for letting Claude Code or Codex open tabs, click buttons, run JavaScript and read the console in your actual browser window. Two checkboxes and one terminal command, and your coding agent is driving.
The feature is the Safari MCP server, and it shipped with Safari 27.0 on September 17. It's the most interesting thing in a release that is otherwise a very large pile of bug fixes, and most of the coverage has filed it somewhere below the new <select> styling.</select>
Apple Reportedly Wants to Sell M8 Ultra AI Servers, and Nvidia May Be Wiring Them Together

Apple has not sold a server since the Xserve was discontinued in 2011. According to a report from The Information, it is thinking about going back, with a machine built for AI developers, businesses and governments. Apple has confirmed none of it, and the earliest anyone expects the thing to exist is 2029.
The report describes two configurations: a smaller one with two M8 Ultra chips clustered together, and a larger one with four. They would be built for inference, the running of trained models rather than the training of them. Apple has reportedly been at it for about a year, with backing from John Ternus while he was still running hardware engineering. He is CEO now. The report also says the project could be scrapped before it ships.

Better battery life. When I polled my YouTube community on the one upgrade they wanted most from a new phone, that answer beat everything else by a mile, and the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max are the first iPhones where I think Apple has delivered it. After a week with the 18 Pro Max, on days when I didn't top it up, I was ending the night in the high 20s to low 30s. That's while hammering it nonstop to prepare this review.
