Acer tablet to use AMD C-50 APU

Acer let us know earlier that its new 10.1-inch Windows 7 tablet is going to use AMD, but left us hanging as far as exact specifications go. Now, from the looks of a new DigiTimes article, it’s looking like Acer’s tablet is going to use AMD’s dual-core C-50 Ontario APU (accelerated processing unit). This APU exploits a built-in Radeon HD 6250 graphics chip and uses 9W of power. Furthermore, the tablet is reportedly sporting Tegra 2, WiFi, and 3G capabilities. Of course, none of this is officially confirmed, so stay keep your eye on the blogs.

Acer introduces Android 3.0 tablets

Acer unveiled their new Android 3.0, or "Honeycomb" powered tablets in 7- and 10.1-inch versions. Each tablet will have 1280x800 resolution, while the 10.1-inch version will have a 1080p HDMI out.

Android surpasses iOS and BlackBerry as the most popular smartphone OS

Data acquired by Nielsen in this graph shows the past 8 months of ‘s steady rise to the top as the most popular OS. While took a major dive around June, and BlackBerry OS continuing to swerve in both directions like a drunk behind the wheel. This puts Android at 32% of new phone purchases, with Apple and BlackBerry closely tailing each other at 25% and 26% respectively. Though, RIM still remains in the overall lead, boasting the most users of their OS in the US market.

Sony looking for Android developers

announced via their website their desire to find an engineer with “experience in mobile development, specifically ”, as well as with a “knowledgeable experience of online gaming.” While no direct conclusions can be drawn from Sony’s optimal candidate characteristics, it is not far fetched to speculate on the possibility of Sony aiming to counter gaming services on other mobile devices, namely Xbox Live. How they will pull off this is not known, but we expect it to work similar to the upcoming Xbox Live phone integration, with possibly even more of a focus on gaming itself. All of a sudden, the wait for Android 3.0 is on.
