YouTube Arrives on Apple TV
Steve Jobs announced it at All Things D, and earlier today Apple released the first software update for the Apple TV, which included the addition of YouTube to the device. As we noted previously, YouTube has begun to encode videos in the H.264 codec, and these are the videos you are able to see on Apple TV. This should result in higher quality visuals, and YouTube plans to have 10,000 videos encoded by June 29th, and will continue adding more each week. If you have an Apple TV, be sure to fire up software update for YouTube functionality.

Wow! I have been waiting for that. I have been watching Youtube. It's incredible, because I can find virtually any subject and rare video imaginable. My wife also watches Youtube, but we've been caveman like and just watching it on the tiny laptop. I have the Apple TV and will go and try the update and try it out.

An Apple TV is basically a tiny media-oriented computer with a decent graphics processor but virtually no RAM Resembles a small Mac Mini and was briefly regarded as a big Apple flop. They then redid the firmware, and sales have gone up. Apparently they're still working on it. (Although I did think they'd already released it?)

The release would suggest that it's a new feature for Apple TV -- but yes, it's been on iTunes for a while now. I guess they merely enabled streaming of those Genius Mixes to the pretty white box!
