Is the 20GB PS3 Being Phased Out?

Posted by Lolita Beckwith Categories: Corporate News, Video Games

When it comes to the PS3, we keep hearing that the absurdly expensive

$600 USD 60GB model is the way to go, that its plethora of features makes well worth the extra $100 it costs over the 20GB model. Good thing, as it appears the 20GB is in the midst of being phased out. Not only has the 20GB not been in stock at Sony’s own website for quite awhile, it’s not even sold on the site anymore. To quote a Sonystyle.com rep, “We’re not getting anymore.” Hmmmm. Visiting a Sony Style store yields the same results, yet they have plenty of 60GBs in stock. Hmmmm. Finally, Best Buy doesn’t even carry the 20GB anymore. Hmmmm. But don’t make any funeral plans yet: Sony stated last month that the elusive 20GB PS3 is still being manufactured—it’s just that retailers are only asking for the 60GB. Ouch.
