CVG reports that SOCOM 4 and a new God of War will be coming to the PS3. SOCOM 4 is rumored to be due out at PS3’s launch, while God of War is a bit further behind and won’t see a release until later on. Also, look for SOCOM 4 to be on display at E3. Additionally, not abandoing its PS2 base, Sony is also rumored to be working on PS2 versions of the upcoming titles. We think that’s a good idea considering how many people own PS2’s. Sony certainly won’t abandon the PS2 platform anytime soon.

The Wall Street Journal has put together a great article featured in this weekend’s paper. The article’s subtitle is as follows:

The article looks at everyone from “The Game Gurus” like Shigeru Miyamoto to “Hardware Heavies” like Ken Kutaragi to “Entertainers” like Peter Jackson to “Team Players” like Tony Hawk. Nvidia Hints No PS3 Spring Release

Following rumors of a September launch, Nvidia has hinted that the PS3 won’t be coming out anywhere in the spring.
Dean Takashi writes:
“Graphics chip maker Nvidia reported today that it doesn’t anticipate any royalties from Sony during the current fiscal quarter which closes at the end of April,” then deduces, “since Nvidia won’t be collecting royalties on the chip this quarter, that suggests that Sony isn’t going to be producing machines during the months that close at the end of April, 2006.”
No machines made by the end of April? We’d say a spring release is out of the question.

PS3: September Launch and PlayStation HUB

Next Generation has an exclusive story on some juicy PS3 details. According to the site, Sony is planning on launching its PS3 in Japan and North America sometime in September (around September 16?). Although nothing’s official, Next Gen sounds pretty sure of itself. Additionally, according to the site, Sony is working on an online network that will offer many of the same services as Xbox Live - it’s called PlayStation HUB. The HUB will allow for both PS3 and PSP online access.

We reported on Sony’s online plans earlier in the week after a scan from PSM appeared. Well, it seems there’s another page. According to the mag, the PS3 will apparently have an online service that floors Xbox Live. The PS3 will also be your new Tivo and double as a DVR. There are more games being developed in the US than previously thought. The PS3 Final Dev kit is faster than expected. There will be a download service similar to iTunes (which I hope Sony doesn’t totally effe up with their own software). The PS3 will serve as a Location Free Player for the PSP, which means you’ll be able to check out DVDs and Blu-rays from your PS3 via the PlayStation Portable. Moreover, the PSP will be able to control the PS3’s DVR functions and send files to the PS3. Developers are being told to prep for a fall release.
It’s official. My mouth is watering and I’m going to pre-order a PS3 as soon as I can.

The Evolution of Controllers

Revolution Advanced has put together an extremely comprehensive feature on the history - or rather evolution - of video game controllers. The article spans from the Atari 2600 controller all the way to the Nintendo Revolution remote control. It’s almost hard to believe how far controllers have come since the industry’s inception - but then again, technology has really advanced over the years. On second though, the controller featured at the bottom of the list, the Revolution controller, is arguably one of the simplest controllers ever made. Thoughts?

Good news for all monkey fans: Sony’s in the early development stages of a new Ape Escape title. Specifically, Sony is looking for programmers, designers, and other staffers. Even though the game isn’t officially stated as being developed for the PS3, we’re sure it is. After all, with the game’s development process just gearing up now, we would expect to see the game release for another year or two - and the PS3 will certainly be on the market by then.

Revolution and PS3 Sites Open at Wal-Mart.com

You know something’s going to be big when Wal-Mart gets involved. The Bentonville, Arkansas-based retailer has posted seperate Revolution and PlayStation 3 pages on its website. Neither page has any new details or specific talk of release dates, but it’s still good to see hype being built. The site simply says to check back soon for release date info.

Hideo Kojima has to be one of the most cutting-edge game developers of our time. No, we aren’t referring to his development of the amazing graphics, gameplay, story, or sound within the Medal Gear Solid titles. Rather, it’s theblog he created some months ago along with his creation of a brand new podcast, entitled “Hidechan! Radio”!
If you’re looking for some massive details on MGS4, you’re not going to find any around here. Not yet at least. His first podcast features a discussion with the Japanese actor who plays Snake. According to the recording, the dialog for the game will be recorded throughout 2006. Unfortunately, the podcast hasn’t been released quite yet but Gamespot was nice enough to give us first details of the podcast (including the brief recording details.)

Japanese PlayStation Site Lists PS3 Launch Titles

While we haven’t heard any real news from Sony on PS3 in quite a while, the company has updated its Japanese PlayStation website with a brief list of supposed PS3 launch titles. As always, these release dates are only temporary but you’ve got to wonder, why would Sony list these games unless they really are going to be launch titles?
The list:
- The Eye of Judgment
- Genji 2
- Angel Rings
- Monster Carnival
- Everybody’s Golf 5
- Gran Turismo Series
Honestly though, most of the titles don’t look interesting at all. However, Hot Shots Golf 5 (Everybody’s Golf 5) could very well end up being a stellar game, especially considering how top-notch the earlier games in the series have been. Additionally, it’s interesting to see the “Gran Turismo Series” listed - but what does it mean? We’re almost positive that GT6 wouldn’t be ready for release so soon, but perhaps we can expect a GT mega-pack featuring all five previous games updated for the PS3?
