Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman, The Bucket ListIn a season rich with holiday movies about family, friendship and fun, Rob Reiner is giving audiences cancer. Not literally, but the disease is the subject of Reiner’s latest film, . A-listers and star in the flick, reason enough to drive moviegoers to the theaters. The movie is about two cancer patients (Nicholson and Freeman) who make a list of 10 things they’d like to do before they die (kick the bucket, get it?). The movie is set to open January 11, well after the holiday movie rush, but will viewers be in a mood for post-holiday death melodrama?

Britney Spears with sonUS Magazine is reporting that may be taking on a very holy role in the near future.  It seems a French producer has deemed the train wreck

pop star a perfect fit for his satirical take on the classic nativity story.  In this modern-day version, Britney would play an unwed pregnant girl, named Mary, who gives birth on Christmas Eve in Bethlehem, Maryland.

Although the film is hers for the taking, Spears is still supposedly mulling over the offer.  A decision on the role is expected to be made within the next few days.  Production on is scheduled to begin in March.

Here are some possible suggestions for your upcoming weekend:

Jessica AlbaI’m hoping this means we won’t be seeing her in any gratuitous bikini shots anytime soon…

People Magazine has learned that , 26, and boyfriend, Cash Warren, are expecting their first baby together sometime next year.  Although Alba, supposedly broke up with Warren, 28, at the end of July, they got back together a short time later.  Since they are reportedly due “late spring, early summer”, I’m guessing they had a happy reunion?

Alvin and the ChipmunksI still remember Saturday mornings watching , the cartoon, on TV. I even remember the special show the series did about the Berlin Wall – truly heady stuff for a show designed only for children. Every year around this time, you’ll hear their Christmas tune on the radio. Now, someone has taken the bold step to answer the question which plagues my generation: does Alvin still want a hula-hoop?

Okay, that’s not really the burning question. A better question would be, what madman thought a live-action version of the chipmunks would work? And WHY? But like it or not, the live-action version of is indeed coming to theaters, and as soon as December 14. What can fans expect from this barely-publicized flick?

Compass, based on Philip Pullman’s children’s series His Dark Materials, was and second disappointing collaboration this year (the first being ).  While it was enough for a first place finish, the $25 million debut was hardly impressive given the film’s $180 million price tag.

I Am LegendThe thin plot. The ridiculously unbelievable scenario. The misconceptions of biological warfare. If has a single saving grace, it must be mega-movie star . Everything this man gets involved in turns to gold, and that’s the only reason I Am Legend will survive at the .

Okay, here’s the plot.  Scientists create a virus, and this germ accidentally kills every single living human on Earth. Not the animals, mind you – just the humans. All but for Robert Neville, a military virologist played by Smith who has managed to survive. How? Well, that’s not really important to the movie-makers. By the way, there are some human-like creatures who have had odd effects from the infection and turn zombie-like. Zombies. That’s right, everybody, billion-dollar movie star Will Smith is starring in what is essentially a zombie flick.
