On Gear Live: 2024 Nissan Z Nismo Review

Veronica Santiago and Neil Estep take a look at Blades of Glory in this episode of FilmCrunch.

When the macho, swaggering Chazz Michael Michaels takes to the rink, he is the rock star of the arena, leaving a trail of thrashed ice and shrieking female fans in his wake. The only competitor who can match Michaels’ scores is the driven former child prodigy, Jimmy MacElroy. Spotted as a youth executing triple lutzes on the frozen pond of an orphanage, MacElroy was whisked away to days of endless training, and now stands as the picture of poise, the personification of the highest ideals of the men’s sport. Michaels and MacElroy have met in finals rounds before, but their latest head-to-head at the World Championships—when they tie for first—is more than either one can bear, and their longstanding rivalry erupts into a no-holds-barred fight. The ensuing brawl not only sets fire to the World Championship’s helpless mascot, but lands both athletes in hot water: Chazz and Jimmy are called before the sport’s governing board, stripped of their gold medals and banned from the sport for life. Now, three-and-a-half years later, both men are still trying to find their way in a world without competitive skating. To skate again, all Chazz and Jimmy have to do is set aside their long festering hatred of one another and join forces—as the first male/male figure skating pair to compete in the history of the sport.

Since she was 18, has had the option of seeing her father – she just hasn’t exercised it. According to the sources, Lindsay’s mother and brother talked her into allowing his visit. The visit actually hasn’t been confirmed by Michael Lohan, who says his ex-wife Dina has done everything possible to prevent him from seeing his children. Lindsay is currently in rehab in Utah, at the Cirque Lodge. The meeting was negotiated through Lohan’s attorney Blair Berk. The dramatic and lengthy divorce battle between Michael and Dina Lohan is expected to be settled soon.

Owen Wilson  Funnyman , who’s been getting some not-so-hysterical headlines, has dropped out of the comedy Tropic Thunder. The DreamWorks picture is already six weeks into production in Hawaii, and will no longer include Wilson among the cast. This stems from the Sunday phone call, where Wilson was rushed to hospital after an apparent suicide attempt. Wilson’s next flick, The Darjeeling Limited, features Wilson as a distraught man who might have attempted suicide. Fox Searchlight has announced the film will go forward as planned, opening September 29.  Wilson has also recently wrapped production on another film, which will debut next spring.

Jim Carrey YouTubeIn a straight-to-YouTube video, Jim Carrey has created a public service announcement for the Human Rights Action Center and the US Campaign for Burma. Carrey called for the release of the Nobel laureate Aung San Suu Kyi, a man confined by the Burmese government, calling Aung San an “unsung hero.” Suu Kyi received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1991 for his efforts in Burma, which opposed an oppressive governing regime. The video shows the serious, compassionate side of Carrey, one that rarely comes out in his frantic film roles.

God Grew Tired Of UsEvery once in a while you are fortunate enough to watch a movie that really shakes you to your core.  Afterwards, you feel compelled to grab any and everyone you see to tell them about it.  I had that experience just last week—and since then, my friends have had to bear the brunt of my enthusiasm.

Earlier this year, I caught a Nightline piece about the film, God Grew Tired of Us.  This documentary about the ‘Lost Boys of Sudan’ was having it’s Los Angeles premiere.  But the road to completion required a lot of celebrity assistance along the way.  Actor sought ‘s help when his director friend (Christopher Quinn) was running low on funds.  Pitt provided financial assistance and took on an executive producer role.  also contributed as narrator after being asked by actress .

Shia LeBeoufOkay - my eyes were a bit tired this morning but they definitely woke up when I saw this story.  Celebrity blogger Perez Hilton is reporting that (, ) and singer Rihanna (‘SOS’, ‘Umbrella’) are currently an item!  There’s no reason why I should find this strange….they are pretty close in age (he’s 21, she’s 19)....but for some reason I still do.  Or at least I find it quite random.

How ‘bout you?  What do you think about this latest pairing?  (You can see a picture of them via the link below)

Superbad

No, you are correct.  Superbad is one of the few movies that has managed to stay at #1 for more than one week this summer.  The movie that only cost $20 million to make now shares the Two-Timers title with Spider-Man 3 and Pirates Of The Caribbean: At World’s End.  (And I’m guessing those movies cost a bit more to produce).

Not only did the high-schoolers hold back the action-packed War (starring Jason Statham and Jet Li), but so did the aging Bourne Ultimatum and British goof Rowan Atkinson (Mr. Bean’s Holiday).

Unfortunately, the Top 5 was so testosterone-laden that it didn’t leave any room for the film adaptation of The Nanny Diaries.  I’m wondering if more women were eager to see that hunky Statham than be reminded of their bratty kids waiting at home…

1. Superbad, Sony, $18,044,369
2. The Bourne Ultimatum, Universal, $12,472,215
3. Rush Hour 3, New Line, $11,706,643
4. Mr. Bean’s Holiday, Universal, $9,889,780
5. War, Lionsgate, $9,820,089
6. The Nanny Diaries, Weinstein Co., $7,480,927
7. The Simpsons Movie, Fox, $4,317,689
8. Stardust, Paramount, $3,872,560
9. Hairspray, New Line, $3,265,384
10. The Invasion, Warner Bros, $3,093,428

Owen WilsonAs reported earlier, was transported to the hospital Sunday afternoon.  Although we still do not know what he is being treated for, a statement released today by the actor hints that he had more than just an accident.

Meanwhile, a spokesperson for Cedars-Sinai Medical Center reports that Wilson is currently in good condition.
